If it has the round bottom then it could be an earlier M3.

Thanks for the info Herb, it's bottom is approx 3/4 flat and 1/4 rounded (for the film reel) the serial # is stamped on the round tripod screw base.... do you know if it's and m4 or m3 from this info? Thanks
Premium Member Simon Wyss Posted October 16, 2008 Premium Member Posted October 16, 2008 Your Bolex-Paillard H 16 M(arine), year of manufacture: 1959. This model was created for work in the then famous Bolex underwater housing. Shutter opening angle: 170 degrees. Have it lubricated by a specialist before the governor or axles run dry. Body alone around $ 250 today

Thanks The tripod base should be rectangular for the M4. There should be several tripod holes for 1/4" and 3/8" screws. Another way to tell if yours has the 1:1 drive shaft along with the 8:1. The M4 has the 1:1, I don't think the M3 does.
John N Campbell Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Check out this great website. Using the serial number and photographs you should be able to determine what model you have. www.bolexcollector.com/
