Adam Jones
Hi, im in the process of devloping a short and i have a certain idea of the kind of images i would like to achieve but i don't know how to achieve them. I will be shooting with either a conon xh a1 with sgpro adaptor and FD lenses or the same but with a HVX. It's a rather ambiguous way to explain the image so if my attempt at a description is no good, ignore this thread but if you have any ideas, i would appreciate your input. Basically, i want an image with really harsh light, lens flare and all. A sort of warm diffused tone without looking like a bad sitcom dream sequence. I want warm, bright light but obviously not for the colours to be lost. Tell me if i am being too ambitious, but i figure its best to start with the best possible idea and work from there. i unfortunately cant think of any immediate examples from films. if you think of any that might apply, suggest them and that might help the situation a little cheers. Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted January 26, 2009 Premium Member Share Posted January 26, 2009 Harsh but hazy & soft sounds a bit contradictory, but it sounds like a big strong source of light with some smoke in the air for an even haze. Alex Hall
I would try to find some visual references to show that display the characteristics of what your looking for. When I first read your post the film "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" came to mind.

Just a single soft key light in the first and a big 3/4 backlight on the second.
Tim Fabrizio
Looks like big sources. The first one looks like the sun, or a big source reflecting off of the lid and maybe a big soft source like David says.
