Ryan Andrzejewski
Should I send my Bolex in for a clean-up and a test? Or should I just run some film through and see how it turns out? How do I know my new acquisition is in working order?
Premium Member Oliver Christoph Kochs Posted March 30, 2009 Premium Member Share Posted March 30, 2009 Hello Ryan, i recommend that you do a steadiness test as described here by Mr. Mullen: http://www.cinematography.com/index.php?s=...ost&p=54712 If this test is steady check the FFD (flange focal distance): Adjust the viewfinder of your camera to the groundglass. Now shoot a "star" test chart with every lens you may use and keep the iris open. Use a measuring tool to exactly match the distance on the lens barrel. If the focus is (tack) sharp at the given distance in your viewfinder and on the film your FFD is okay. And here's something that's also good to know when using a Bolex Reflex: http://www.city-net.com/~fodder/bolex/truth.html Have fun with your Bolex, i love mine!
