Kurt Porter
I'm getting ready to shoot my first short on 16mm. This camera is new to me but I had it serviced and in my tests it performed well. I'm looking for info on a good mattebox for this camera. I've found that on the Bolex matteboxes it's not possible or simple to add filters inside the mattebox, unless I'm mistaken. I'd like to be able to stack a couple of filters in a mattebox and not have them getting direct sunlight. I could get a bolex mattebox and rig an arm with some flags to shade the filters but then that'd be defeating the purpose. Do anyone know of any other matteboxes that might work with an EBM? Naturally I'm on a budget but anything is better than renting screw on filters for a POE lens... Thanks again for your help and any recommendations would be very much appreciated! Jean-Louis Seguin
Anybody? Hi Kurt, I think the reason nobody has been answering is that this subject has been discussed many times before in this forum. One of the best solutions would seem to be: 1) acquire a Bolex matte box, the long one for your 16-100mm, 2) have the rear part adapted to hold whatever size of filters you choose. Cheers, Jean-Louis
Premium Member Oliver Christoph Kochs Posted April 17, 2009 Premium Member Share Posted April 17, 2009 Hi Kurt, I would go for SR style 15mm rods. Les Bosher makes some nice rods for all Bolex models. With the rods you can use a FollowFocus and any of the Matte Boxes widely available from Arri, Chrosziel or even the indian plastic crappy ones for 200$. They will all hold 2 4x4 inch filters. Kurt Porter
Jean-Louis — I didn't see one that addressed my particular issue, maybe I missed it! Oliver — Thanks, that's good info. I'm going to contact Les Bosher. I'll probably just end up renting a matte box and filters to keep prices down. Do you know a particular Indian matte box that will accept 4x4 filters? Thanks! Kurt. Jean-Louis Seguin
Jean-Louis — I didn't see one that addressed my particular issue, maybe I missed it! Kurt. Sorry Kurt, I don't understand what you are saying. I said you could have the matte box adapted to whatever size filter you want. In your latest post you now mention you want to use 4x4. That's fine. Cheers Jean-Louis
