I'm about to work with an XDCAM EX-3 and a letus ultimate adapter.

has anybody worked with ultra prime or master prime (arri/zeiss) lenses? i know that master prime are faster...

do they have better response in low light situations over the ultra primes?? and what about the sharpness and image quality?

or should i get other lenses (cooke or another)

thanks.,

Rephotographing an image off of a groundglass as in a 35mm adaptor, you're not going to see a difference between a Zeiss Ultra Prime, Super Speed (except at T/1.3), Master Prime, Cooke S4, etc.

I'd only spend the money on the Master Primes if you need the T/1.3 speed. If T/2.0 is fast enough, use the Ultra Primes or Cooke S4's.

Hi, IMHO for most DOF adaptors you have to stay way below an f-stop of 2.8.

Otherwise the grain of the ground glass becomes too visible. I doubt that you can see any difference between the two types. I use the P+S mini and Pro35. The difference between let's say Zeiss Primes and i.e. a Nikon lens at the same f-stop can hardly be seen. I coudn't tell - exact when racking the focus because the photo-primes do breathe a lot more than the film lenses.

Hi,

As you seem to have money to burn, why not get digi primes & shoot wide open? Should look way better than any adapter.

Hi

I don't know anything about your project and it there may be considerations I am not able to guess.... however I am struggling to believe you could potentially be faced with a shoot that included a lowish end camcorder, with a spinning ground glass adapter and Master primes. (And I'm the kind of guy that will try anything)

Having shot on a ps technik PL to B4 adapter on front of a F900/750p a couple of times (and not loving it for anything demanding) I don't feel the above combination represents good hire value. Surely a Red 1 with a very small set of SS/UP (or similar) would be similar in cost and far more useful?

As for Digiprimes..? In the UK they are very expensive and I am unconvinced of the value of the match... They do look superb on the F23 or Viper. Also Digiprimes wide open on a 1/2 inch chip would be like shooting (DOF) at nearly 5.6 with a 35mm lens imaging on a 35mm sized plane.

How many stops of light loss does the letus cause?

regards and good luck
