shoot at 25fps in 60Hz location

We will shoot at 25fps base(50fps, 75fps also) using Arri235 in the train where has 60Hz fluorescent lights.

 

Set the shutter angle at 150 degrees and shoot at 25fps base seems O.K., but Arri235 does not have 150 shutter angle. It only has 144 degrees shutter setting around 150 degrees.

 

Does everyone know how is going to be the result shooting at 144 degrees and 25fps under the 60Hz fluorescent lights??

Should I set at 24fps base and adjust the fps in the post production?

This is for the Europe production means should shoot always 25fps...

Have you checked the actual camera ?

 

The manual says no - but it may actually have a stop for 150 degrees (seems like a curious ommision)

 

I'm pretty sure 144 degree won't work.

 

The other options are:

 

1) 75 degrees (might be too strobey... too much light loss for 75fps...)

2) Manually tweak the shutter for 150 degrees. I think you can do that on a 235 - not as accurate as going by a stop - needs careful calibration.

3) Shoot 24, 48, 72 fps - confer with the sound department about re-syncing the audio (won't work for a music video) - it can be done without shifting the pitch. 24fps -> 25fps happens all the time in Europe.

The fluorescent lights of train can have electronic ballasts with 20k-30k frequency.

60Hz AC have full syncronization with 24 (30, 40, 60, ) fps.

The difference between 24 and 25 fps important at sync sound recording only and 24 fps footage can be transfer on 25 fps at post production.

 

For note, Konvas-1M, 2M have 150 degree shutter.

 

As for me, I draw attention on color balance more, because, fluorescent lights can give green color.

The russian trains have "emergency lighting" with incandescent lamp.

 

I do not know, you can upgrade of train or not.

We had similar sutuations of shooting inside train and setup of additional lighters and had good result.
