Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted September 10, 2009 Premium Member Share Posted September 10, 2009 It normally has to do with keeping light off of the lens as well as protecting it from any stray debris that might hit it (it's also why you keep an optical flat filter in the mattebox if nothing else) . They are designed for a certain MM range to keep it out of the actual frame.
debal banerjee
is there any thumb rule to use the masks? if it is please tell me sir
Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted September 12, 2009 Premium Member Share Posted September 12, 2009 Well you gotta make sure you're using the right mask for the lens you're on. They're marked in mm, for example one might be a 18-25mm mask which means on an 18-25mm lens you won't see the mask in the image area. Aside from that, no rules that I know of.
