James Rydings
When shooting 3 perf 2:35 is there such a thing as regular 35mm 2:35, and super 35mm 2:35 or is it always super?

James Rydings
Great thank you David. I always though so but it was just an assumption so I though I better check.
Premium Member John Sprung Posted October 31, 2009 Premium Member Share Posted October 31, 2009 In the early days of three perf, the late 1980's, it was used for 4:3 TV with Academy centering. This is because 4:3 is limited by the height in three perf, and the tubes of the Rank Cintel telecines had a burn-in problem. The sound track area would be significantly brighter than the Academy picture area. They devised a compensation for that, and soon Academy centered three perf was history. 2.39 is limited by the width even in Super centered three perf, so going Academy would be a very bad idea. -- J.S.
