Ignacio Aguilar
Hi, Anyone knows what film stock was used on this film? It was shot mostly with available light outdoors and a small single source indoors, so my guess is that they used Kodak 5294 (400 ASA) at least for interiors, the fastest film stock of the day. The DVD shows a few grainy shots, which probably were pushed or underexposed. I would love to hear your opinions about Bruce Surtees, a cinematographer whose low-light work I admire. Also, anyone knows why he stopped working with Eastwood?
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted January 7, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted January 7, 2005 I liked his work for Eastwood, "Pale Rider" the most. I saw it in the theater and it looked like standard 100 ASA stock was used for day exterior scenes and high-speed stock for interiors. I'm curious if the brown tone was achieved only through design and printing or if the film was shot through something like Chocolate filters. The leading young actress almost ruins the films for me -- she seems completely modern in this realistic period setting.
