Mini DV/Mini DVCAM?

Hi,

This has been covered many times before, both on this forum and on the web in general.

The one and only difference is the way it's laid down on tape - DVCAM tracks are wider, so it drops out less and programme interchange is more reliable. This means you can play a tape back on any deck without dropouts and unreliability. I have seen programme interchange problems on miniDV equipment.

You may come across a lot of half-truths and statements that are completely wrong about DVCAM, such as "the pictures are sharper" (they aren't), "you can't set the timecode on miniDV" (You can; this is a function of the VTR, not the tape format itself). As far as I can tell from practical experience the cassettes themselves are completely interchangeable, although it's probably a good idea not to record DV on something that's been used for DVCAM or vice versa.

Many Sony miniDV devices can play back DVCAM.
