I have read that you can use a 12v battery pack with the body of the camera, and that the mags need to be converted for 12v use. My question is, does the 12v battery effect the performance/function of the APEC exposure system? I don't want to mess anything up, and I don't have a schematic. I am proficient with mechanics and electronics (please trust me on that statement), and am looking for a modification that I can do myself if needed. Hopefully a modification isn't needed and I can plug in and go with a daylight reel. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Probably best to talk with the folks at ARRI INC in New York, though I'm not sure if they remember as that particular camera (Arriflex 16S w/APEC) is now thirty years old. The information I have is that the APEC system was grafted to the Arriflex 16BL before it was grafted to the Arriflex 16S. With the 16BL, that's a 12 volt camera. And naturally the APEC on the Arriflex 16SR, that's a 12 volt camera. I assume you have some sort of contacts on the camera door that touch contacts on the camera body when you attach the door? I know toward the end of the run of Arriflex 16S cameras (which is the same time the APEC door was introduced to the camera), ARRI made some 12 volt camera motors (ergo making the camera body 12 volt), so maybe they were done to be used with the APEC door 16S cameras. Please excuse my ignorance on this, motion picture (film) is very new to me. Any additional info regarding APEC on a 16s would be very helpful, keeping in mind I am pretty much throwing myself into the fire here as far as making films goes.. A sort of related question... I have a laser display I have built that I make analog vector graphics with. I am looking to shoot the graphics with the ARRI. Does anyone have any advice as to how I would go about setting my exposure/aperture properly for this task? I guess I am mostly wondering if such a high contrast ratio, thin and defined lines, might be a pain to effectively measure using APEC, or any light meter for that matter? So far I am not having any conflicts with the laser display and shutter speed at 24fps while looking through the viewfinder. Maybe my second question is for another forum/thread. I haven't had time to explore the culture of this message board thoroughly, so my apologies if this is off topic. I had an Arriflex 16SR and never used the APEC metering system on it. Always used a hand held light meter. The APEC reads when the camera is sitting still, and is designed to be able to still get a reading when the camera is running. Don't know why you shouldn't be able to film your lasers.
