Guest Lukeo
Hi all, I'm wondering how most contracts are layed out for actors and permission to shoot certain locations. Is there any web sites ot links to a sample contract? or an example of what one looks like? I'm starting an independant production in the near future and want to be well prepared with the business side of things. after reading this http://www.sonnyboo.com/downloads/contracts.htm it made me consider how important this stuff is. Any suggestions?
Jeremy
You can do a google search for release forms and contracts, such as "actor release form" and you can get different examples. Download them, read through them, and doctor them to meet your needs. As always the absolute best thing would be to get a lawyer on board who can draw up all of the contracts for you. Try to find one to work for free or for a deferred payment, but even if you have to pay for his/her services, if they can fill in any loophole (and they should), then the money is very much worth it! Good luck, and ALWAYS make sure to cover your a**! The business side of filmmaking isn't why we got into it (at least it's not why I got into it), but it's what helps us make more movies down the road. Right now, we're producing our first independent film, and we're drawing up contracts for EVERYTHING, just to be safe.
