Aaton split options / HD

Hello all,

 

I was hoping to start a discussion on color split options for the Aaton xtr's. Two main questions for any experts out there that I have been wondering about -

 

1. Has anyone made an HD split for any Aaton?

2. Does anyone know if any of the more modern Arri splits could be converted to work with an Aaton?

In a word, no. I don't know of any HD videotap options for any Aaton cameras. The current tap from Aaton is a progressive scan unit that offers twice the resolution than others' interlace models, but it is not an HD unit. The mechanical interface is so completely different between ARRI & Aaton that I cannot see using one brand's tap on the other's camera.

Thanks for the reply Mitch. So what is currently the best Aaton colour split for the XTRs?

That would be the VHR. That's the progressive scan model. I believe it can be retrofitted to the XTRprod body but for the cost one might as well convert the camera to the Xtera and gain the dual-battery mount and other advantages.

Thanks Mitch, I will drop you a line. I am based in the UK currently. How does the VHR split compare to the VHA?
