Advanced Lighting Workshops in LA?

I am moving to Los Angeles Jan. 1st, and was under the impression that there would be an equivalent to the workshop here in St. Augustine. ([url=http://www.thefloridaworkshops.com/workshops.html]http://www.thefloridaworkshops.com/workshops.html[/url)]

More specifically, the Advanced Lighting for Film & Digital Cinematography course they offer. I wasn't able to make the workshop because I was working a job, and can't find any similar types of workshops in LA. I thought because it was one of the biggest filmmaking hubs of the world it would certainly have something like it. But nothing comes up on google or in the forums.

I know one obvious answer would be, "it doesn't matter, just keep working on your jobs and you will learn what you need to know". But I would like to make sure I am not getting paid for inadequate knowledge on a job and would rather learn and take that on set.

Thanks guys, any help is much appreciated.

How do you think most producers make their living!

Moreover, would you rather pay someone to teach you, or get paid to learn?

As long as you're not passing yourself off as a department head, you'll be fine learning from your work. Humping cable and sandbags is lighting, after all, and you'll still have to do it even if you do great in class.
