Premium Member Laurent Andrieux Posted March 9, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted March 9, 2005 Do you mean on the set ? Yes, there are different "motion control" systems. The principle is to have the different parameters set at first and then you can reproduce the move as many times as you want. The more parameters you want to control the "heavier" it is, the more expensive it is. Also, some parameters are more easily motor controlled than others. On the Panther Dolly, you can compute the vertical tracking. When you want to control an horizontal tracking, it means you need a special engine to push the dolly, that is linked to a computer. If using a crane, you'll have to do so with avery movement you want to control. Controlling a zoom, the focus end even the ftop aperture is quite easy because the remote motors already exist and they don't need too much power. Usually the motion control system is used xhen you need a composited image in post with a move in the shot. It then becomes more difficult than just shhoting static in front of a blue scren with a static background that you put in post. Sinec the frame has to be exactly the same for each take the system is necessary. If it's only for a normal shot, it's not worth it, the grip will do.
