Sean Stiegemeier
Sorry if this is a repeated question, tried to search but came up empty. SO I am trying to get a nice laser beam spread like that of Alien, or even some of the shots in the Prometheus trailer. NOT the pin point style but the big wide scanning beams. We are shooting ALEXA. The tests I did with a couple dance club units gave me some bad flicker and rolling shutter issues. My question: Has anyone used any different units or had experience to overcome the rolling shutter? I would love a silky smooth flicker-less device if possible. BLUE and/or RED are ideal. Thanks! Edited April 26, 2012 by Sean Stiegemeier
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted April 26, 2012 Premium Member Share Posted April 26, 2012 Theoretically, it would be possible to synchronise the scanning of the laser to the camera's frame rate. I am not aware that a device with that capability actually exists; you'd have to call round the laser display specialists and find out. It strikes me as not an unreasonable ask, since it would allow any camera (including global-shutter types) to photograph a flicker free display. What worries me is that I've never actually seen a flicker-free laser display photographed on video. You'll just have to ask around.
