Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted March 28, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted March 28, 2005 Just wondering if anyone has any comments about the use of lots of smoke to add texture/film look to video shot on a Viper. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm not sure why smoke would add a film-look other than to increase the separation between objects in depth to make up for the increased depth of field -- on the other hand, Super-16 has a similar depth of field to 2/3" CCD cameras, plus one could get the depth of field of 35mm shot at f/4 by using a fast lens in HD, like a Zeiss Digi-Prime. Anyway, use smoke if you like the look, not because it's going to make the Viper image look more like film. I've done smoked scenes in HD in the past and like the look.
