JB Earl
Anyone see one of these up close?http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...uty_Light.htmllooks an awful lot like my manfrotto combo stands.( a little shorter) but can't be sure from the photos they're made to hold up small lighting trusses. Any thoughts?
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted October 12, 2013 Premium Member Share Posted October 12, 2013 I own lots of very cheap stands, not much like this, but I can offer one piece of advice. Some cheap stands don't prevent the telescoping pieces of tube from sliding out to the point where they don't overlap anymore. This is a problem because all that's then holding things together is the clamp, which then tends to snap, especially if plastic, unceremoniously dumping your light on the floor. You can avoid the problem by not extending them fully. Just an FYI.
JB Earl
thanks Phil, I do remember some miniature stands like that from my photoflood days. FWIW they rate these for 100lbs so it sounds good, so I don't imagine the connectors are plastic. That would not be good. I remember when USS was trying to sell speaker stands at VISCOMM years ago. They were big but had plastic hardware.
JB Earl
I did some poking around. Turns out the connectors ARE plastic. I can't imagine them being safe anywhere near 100 lbs. If it sounds too good to be true.....
