Vadim Joy
Hello, my Rode Videomic pickups scratchy noise that comes from boom pole. Here is equipment I use: Rode videomic with rycote lyre mount Tascam dr 05 linear pcm recorder Rode boompole Sony headphones (mdr-7506) Rode extension cable I included a sample bellow where you can clearly hear the noise. It was recorded using the following settings: Rode mic set to 0db, Tascam set to 50db. Microphone was 1 feet from speaker. Anybody knows what can solve the problem? Tim Tyler
That's mic handling noise, probably from the camera mic. There's no way that mic is one foot from speaker. Maybe the boom is on the other channel?
Travis Gray
That mount should isolate handling noise, but, try testing it off the boom pole as well. Just the mount. Also, swap out cables. Could be a bad connection/bad copper somewhere. Edit: read too quick- didn't realize Tim said handling noise from camera mic. That could make sense too. Isolate the mics. Still check cables. Edited December 5, 2013 by Travis Gray

Vadim Joy
Somebody told me that it's bad to use extension cables with Rode products because it acts as antenna. Could it be true?
Tim Tyler
I'd be willing to bet the audio is from the TASCAM DR-05's on-board mic.

Tim Tyler
Why is the sound of the banana leaves louder than the voice saying "banana leaves"? Was the mic pointing at the speaker's mouth?
Vadim Joy
I just did another quick test. LINK This time I wasn't using headphones, and surprisingly audio is a little bit cleaner. Can headphones cause problems?
Vadim Joy
Why is the sound of the banana leaves louder than the voice saying "banana leaves"? Was the mic pointing at the speaker's mouth? Maybe it's the quality of the speakers. There is no way on tascam dr05 to choose between internal or external microphone. Once you plug it in, it uses it as main mic. Tim Tyler
Ahhh. 1 feet from speaker. You mean a loudspeaker, not a person speaking.
