EVF Holder

Hi, this is my first time writing on a forum so there is hope in the old dog yet.

 

What follows is a gripe and a praise.

Having worked with shoulder designed 16mm Arri & Aaton film cameras for over 15 years at the BBC, followed by 20+ years of professional shoulder designed video cameras including my well retired 14 year old Sony Digi-Beta camera, I have come to expect and almost take for granted the use of a built on eyepiece with flexible/adjustable movement depending on the position of the camera operator.

Unfortunately over the past few years with the arrival of the new designed cheap HD little black box (toy) cameras that many of us professionals have been pushed into using, has ended up with cameras that have an eyepiece that has either been forgotten or added to the back end, which is not very useful after being asked to add two radio mic receives, radio directors monitor transmitter, on-board light and extra batteries to run all these attachments. With the attempt to attach a shoulder mount this has involved adding the dreaded separate EVF eyepiece usually made under a different make and often not giving the same information that the camera itself could give, however that's another story and I should stop there.

 

Now we come to some positive news: I've struggled finding an EVF holder to instantly change my viewpoint depending on whether the camera is on my shoulder or a low angled floor shot and finally found the perfect tool.

It's an EVF holder with two adjustable damping rotation brackets and has made my work so much easier.

If anyone is interested it's made by Camtree Hunt (CH-EVFH) for 15mm & 19mm camera rods and sold by ProaimShop.com at a great price.

Oh, that's quite nice. People have previously used those little mini magic arms, but that approach always seemed a bit flimsy to me.

 

Like you I'm spoiled by experience (though considerably less than yours) on properly shaped ENG cameras with proper handgrip lenses and orientable viewfinders and find the modern stuff detestable, to the point that I've spent quite some time trying to figure out how to build an ENG-style outfit around a DSLR. It's possible. It's just very expensive.

It's good to know I'm not alone with my views.

 

As for figuring out how to build an ENG-style outfit around a toy camera I believe it is possible too, though it won't be without a few compromises.

When I've worked it out, I'll be back.

Yes, That is quite good. I am having the same Camtree hunt EVF mount. And it is enough solid to carry different accessories and is very flexible. This I bought last month.

 

With this I also purchased one Unique design shoulder mount that is Filmcity Air hand-held shoulder rig. The reason behind my this purchase is its price and it is multi-functionality. I can use it as a handheld as well as shoulder mount; quality wise its is well built. I like its shoulder pad very comfortable and easy to balance. I Watched its video in youtube that was also very helpful demonstration.

 

At first I was little skeptical about this hand-held rig but I was surprised when it arrived it looks really pretty cool and professional. It was shipped very fast. Everything is nice and inexpensive for my camera. I also bought it from Proaimshop.com
