Painting Aesthitic

Recommended Posts

This looks like a Maxfield Parrish, and as such, many of his paintings have a soft light and wrapping effect, so, a large softbox, or the like would be in order.

However, as a painter, Parrish could 'control' the light far 'better' than a photographer may for a group shot like this.

With sufficient lighting, and flagging, one may be able to get close.

But this would require something bigger than a single china ball.

A soft warm top light would work, but for a group shot like this you'd need a grid of paper lanterns overhead, not just one, depending on the size. But otherwise, overhead paper lanterns are a good idea, and setting the camera's color temp higher so that they render warm with tungsten bulbs in them. The people in the painting are underexposed somewhat, photographically, with the highlights coming from the large paper lanterns in the frame.
