First lighting kit

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I'm shortly embarking on my first short film and I'm looking for recommendations for a basic lighting kit.

I'm hoping for something fairly adaptable to most situations and reasonably portable. The film will have a fair amount of night shots where they are walking outside by moonlight so it would be great to have something that would help pull this off also.

Thanks for your advice.

Moonlit exteriors can require enormous resources, depending on the area you need to light. It's not necessarily an easy thing to do.

Basic kits begin with a set of redheads (800-watt open faced lights) and go up to include fluorescents, fresnels, and so on, but it's crucially important to realise that equipment to control and modify light is just as important. This can be at least as expensive as the lighting equipment itself, but it's crucial for proper results. And then you need to know how to use it.

It's really too broad a question. What are you trying to achieve?
