MScott
I am shooting a short student piece with a sci-fi edge on 16mm (Arriflex SR-2, Kodak Vision 500T 7279) and wanted to try to get the practicals to do a vertical flare/blur/bleed in the lens (I'm not real sure what it is called) like you see in a lot of music videos nowadays. Any pointers? Scott
Mitch Gross
You can rent a filter which will do this for you, but if you can't afford it just take a piece of plexiglass (aka perspex) and scratch some lines across it then stick it in your mattebox. Careful--a little goes a long way.
Dan Salzmann
Nose grease or vaseline on a piece of clear glass can work. Also try maybe some real flare-be careful with this method.
