Dear Moviemaker!

In order to promote Super-8 film and encourage people to make a "reel" film, the specialist publishing house Schiele & Schön (publishers of schmalfilm and small format) organises the NOMOS Super-8 Film Award. The winners will be shown at a Berlin cinema in November 2005. The theme for your movie: "Super-8 is still alive!." Apart from our main sponsor, the designer watchmaker NOMOS from Glashütte/Saxony, Kodak, Wittner Kinotechnik and the Beaulieu Cine Filmclub International (International Club for Small Format Movie Makers) also support this competition. The first prize will be Euro 500 as well as a "Nomos Tangente Super-8", a special watch that features a Super-8 reel under the second-hand and a special strap with Super-8 sprocket holes as well as an engraving of the winner's name (value: 800 Euro). Further two more "Nomos Tangente Super-8" wristwatches will be awarded, vouchers for film equipment and accessories, Kodak film stock as well as free subscription to the schmalfilm magazine for one year can also be won. There will be a DVD with the best 15 movies of the award. The DVD will be shipped free for every participant.

In no longer than five minutes, the films should tell a short story, showing that Super-8 is still alive and brings fantastic and very special results. There are no further restrictions. We accept Super-8 and Single-8 films, in colour or black and white, with or without sound. The prizes will be awarded through a jury. All films have to be sent to the editorial office of the schmalfilm by October, 10, 2005.

You want to join? We are looking forward to seeing your film! Please fill in the entry form and send it back to us together with your movie. The entry form is online at www.schmalfilm.de and can be ordered at redaktion@schmalfilm.biz

Good luck!

The film of course.

Which does harken back to a gripe of mine, not directed to this film festival but just to the fact that worldwide, there is not one super-8 film festival dedicated solely to super-8 that screens Super-8 projects that have been transferred to video.

well, we allow to get dvd first for a check of the film with the jury. but when the film belongs to the best, we need it in super 8.

This may sound like heresy, but a high quality video master made from a super-8 original, dubbed to DVD at a good bit rate, should project quite nicely with the new breed of projection equipment available, no? Plus this should insure a much higher quality of sound, a very essential element to most good films.
