Joe Taylor Posted May 13, 2016 Share Posted May 13, 2016 Going to be shooting an extensive sequence using a Sony A7s II next Friday under direct full moonlight. A reverse angle will have a character situated in a small pocket/cove that is about 5' back. I want to simulate the moonlight using an LED. Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted May 13, 2016 Premium Member Share Posted May 13, 2016 Moonlight is more or less daylight-balanced -- it's the sun bouncing off of a grey ball after all. If you are shooting with a Sony A7S at a super high ISO rating, then the LED will be bright enough, the trick will be getting it high enough and back far enough so that the fall-off isn't so different compared to the moonlight. I just want to be sure to match the actual moonlit shots with my simulated moonlight. The crucial trick is matching the color balance as well as your suggestions or the illusion is ruined.
