pushparaj santhosh
Hi guys...I know this is totally amateurish but I want to know how to center/focus lights...I find it really difficult to do it some times and especially if it is a soft box or a kinoflo...is there any techniques you use to center different kinds of lights...thanks
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted October 9, 2016 Premium Member Share Posted October 9, 2016 Harder to mis-aim a soft light unless it has an eggcrate or some similar light control device in front, but the best way to check the aim is to just stand where the subject will be and look at the soft light. For a hard light, just spot it in, put the hot spot on the subject, and then flood out again.

Guillaume Cottin
For a hard light, you can also use a Gaffer's Glass (this is the one I have). I stand where the subject is and look at the fresnel or par through the glass. It is very precise.
