Bell & Howell 240 lenses inquiry

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! After some time of lurking I've decided to join this forum.

After shooting Super8 for several years I would like to start shooting 16mm. I was thinking that a pretty nice camera to sharp my teeth with, even though it's not a reflex, would be the Bell & Howell 240 EE: I think I would prefer it over the Krasnogorsk K3 over pin registration and portability.

The one I've found includes its standard 20mm f/1.9 Super Comat lens and a B&H Filmo 16 17mm viewfinder.

I would like to know if this viewfinder is the right one for the standard 20mm lens and which viewfinder I should choose for the wide Angle and telephoto lenses. Would these fit the camera?

Thank you very much in advance for your time!

Welcome to the forum Michele.

I don't have that camera, but I know from collecting other Bell and Howell cameras that they made a lot of products and the various attachments aren't always interchangeable. The UK Bell and Howell offerings were sometimes different to the US ones as well.

From looking at the 240EE manual that is online, the wide and tele attachments look a bit different to the ones in that eBay listing.

They might be for one of Bell and Howell's 8mm cameras.

Regarding the viewfinder lenses, presumably there was a 20mm finder lens to match the 20mm Super Comat, but 17mm isn't far off, and it's better to have a slightly larger view than a smaller one.
