Ryan Constantino
Just like the title says, what do you do personally when it comes to handling and storing filters? Obviously grab it by holding the edges to prevent smudges but do you use microfiber cloths to grab them or are there some ac's out there that wear latex gloves? Just curious. When storing them do you just keep the filter in the pouch with nothing on it. Or do wrap a cloth or tissue paper around it before sliding them in the pouch? Do you store them in a box or a bag in the closet or what? Just wondering whatever everyone is doing out there.
Premium Member Mark Kenfield Posted February 4, 2018 Premium Member Share Posted February 4, 2018 (edited) Mine all live in a small stubby Pelican Storm case (the smoother latches of the Storm cases are important for delicate things like filters). They all just live in their cover cases, no wrapping them in tissue - no one's got time for that on set. As for handling, always grab them from the edges, so you don't leave marks on the filter itself. And always make sure your ACs know how to pass them to each other - assuming you're using standard 4x5.65" filters, the person removing the filter from its case should extract it by holding the longer, horizontal edge of the filter. This way the person putting the filter in the mattebox, can take it from them by the shorter, vertical edge - which allows them to place the filter directly into the filter tray, without any awkward (and risky) repositioning of their hands on the filter.
