Jonathan Bryant
I posted a week ago and didn't get any response so I thought I would make known that I am not talking about the fake cineframe. Could one FX1 or Z1 user try to use the 480p setting and comment on the results. I would greatly appreciate any response.
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted August 15, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted August 15, 2005 Hi, I'm pretty sure you'll find they're just talking about doing a bob deinterlace on the HD frames and downscaling it for hopefully-reasonable SD video. Which should work. Phil
Guest Daniel J. Ashley-Smith
I spoke to a Sony representative and he seemed to think that all the Z1 does is deinterlace the video footage on camera. i.e. it's not actually true progressive scan. Considering he was holding an official Sony seminar, I assume he knew what he was talking about. Edited August 15, 2005 by Daniel J. Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted August 15, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted August 15, 2005 Hi, I think he was probably talking about the cine-frame mode. The point here is that assuming you have this 1080i HD image, you can field blend to deinterlace and still have more than 480 lines of effective resolution left, so it should look sharp downconverted. Jonathan Bryant
So no one has tried this mode? I am realllly curious what the results would look like. Look at the Sony website or the brochures, and you will see they say true 480p. At 60fps that would be great slomo.

Kyuss
The FX1 as far as I can see shoots only 25fps so cannot do 60 @ 480p. Edited September 13, 2005 by Kyuss
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted September 13, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted September 13, 2005 Hi, If it's shooting 1920x1080 at 60i, you could bob-deinterlace it for sharp 540p at 60fps. Phil
Bon Sawyer
If it's shooting 1920x1080 at 60i, you could bob-deinterlace it for sharp 540p at 60fps. I've heard that this software does a reasonable job of the deinterlacing. See the comparison pics at the bottom of the page: http://www.dvfilm.com/fx1/index.htm Not sure if/how well it works for progressive 60fps output, however. EDIT: Oops! Sorry for reviving this old thread. I somehow confused "Sep 13" for "Oct 13"... even though we haven't reached October 13th yet. :) -Bon Edited October 12, 2005 by Bon Sawyer
