Adapter for DLD replacing

Hello my friends. I have a Bell & Howell Super8 projector, model  Lumina LX33 that needs a bulb replacement. The projector uses a model DLD which is extremely expensive and lasts for a very short time. I have heard that an adapter can be easily made or is available in order to use a modern halogen lamp thus replacing the DLD bulb. Can anybody out there help me with this problem?
