Jarin Blaschke
Has anyone used these lenses before or know much about them? I am gearing up for an anamorphic shoot next month and am presently waiting for a call back from Panavision regarding their specs and which they actually still keep around but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these lenses or opinion of them. The only remark I've heard thus far is "not the greatest lenses overall but the 40mm is pretty good." How do they perform as far as sharpness/color/distortion? How do they match with other sets, particularly the highspeeds? Thanks. Jarin
Jarin Blaschke
Just spoke to Panavision... There are only the 40 and 50 around anymore. Apparently the 40 is the same as the C series, but with better edge illumination and a T2. I was also clued into the 'USG' series, which they only have in a 35mm and a 40mm but apparently perform much better than the highspeeds. Does anyone have any remarks regarding these as well? I appreciate any comments, thanks all. Jarin
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted April 15, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted April 15, 2004 Since all those lenses you mentioned are not in the catalog, I really don't know anything about them. I never even heard of the "D Series" before -- they must have gutted them to make the E Series or something.
Jarin Blaschke
I actually was told that all the D series, save for the 40 and 50 were raided for glass to make other sets.
Eric Steelberg ASC
Never heard of the D. Probably another PanaExperiment gone the way of the Primo Classics.
GregIrwin
I actually use a D 40mm. It's a great lens but a rare one. It's shaper and has more contrast than the C series 40.
