Sony PCM-M1 PORTABLE DAT

Hi, I recorded a ton of audio onto a dat tape using the Sony PCM-M1 and when I went to playback the tape on another DAT machine (the fostex pd4 and the hhb) the tape didn't play. The tape only plays back on the pcm.

 

 

What the heck is going on??

Maybe there is some kind of lubricant on the Sony tape that will not allow it to play on a Fostex or Tascam deck? :huh:

Not familiar with that unit but Sony MD recorders do non-standard LP modes. Could that be it?

Only if he recorded 32K and the HHB and Fostex don't do it. I'm not sure, I've used the HHB portable but don't remember.

 

DAT can be weird; I did recording on a Panasonic 3700, the tapes would not play back on another 3700 but were fine on a Tascam.....

most probably your PCM head is slightly misaligned and therefore tape recorded on it wont play on other recorders.
