the schoeps compacts will work well indoors and in quiet outdoors especially if close enough. otherwise one could use a short shotgun mic. nepal and tibet may have been very quiet. -vin

most probably your PCM head is slightly misaligned and therefore tape recorded on it wont play on other recorders. -vin

you can get Micron or Audio Ltd RMS2000 or 2020 for around 1.5k euro a channel. -vin
