  1. Different transfer places charge different rates. I had a school project done at my local lab and had a sitdown color correction transfer session and it wasn't too expensive. I had about 250 ft or so of 16mm and it cost me only $140, the colorist did a magnificent job. Kev
  2. Ask Olex, maybe he can steer you into the right direction. I don't know much about the Ostcam version but my Konvas was recently upgraded by Bruce McNaughton at Aranda in Australia. Kev
  3. You should be able to crank it at any speed no problem, and whoever told you was right not to crank it at higher speeds without film in it. I'd get the camera checked and serviced anyway since you got it from ebay. Kev
  4. Well I can vouch for the DVX because I use one but if you want to film in widescreen you might want to look at the XL2 or for the same price of a DVX you could step up and get a Sony FX-1(native 16:9 widescreen) however the FX doesn't have 24p. Maybe try and see if you can borrow or rent both cameras and do a comparison yourself. Kev
  5. I hear soon that JVC will be releasing a cine lens mount for the JVC HDV series cameras. I think they said it was a PL mount but I'm not certain. Maybe look into it? Kev
  6. I think it can but if I'm not mistaken, some of the electronics are inside the grip itself so you would have to then rehouse the electronics. Kev
  7. Anyone have an Arri 2b or 2c that is not in working condition? Kev
  8. Alright, reselling my K3 on ebay. Anyone interested just check it out. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...E%3AIT&rd=1 Kev
  9. Well, 24p to me looks like a cross between video and film so it's more of a hybrid look. Film cameras can cost just as much or sometimes less than a DVX or HVX, depending on make and model. Kev
  10. I've seen the registration on both cameras and I must say that they do hold up well, not perfect, but nonetheless. Kev
  11. I've seen 16BL's go for around $1500-2500 on ebay, might be more somewhere else. Kev
  12. Check out Circuit City, they have some cheap minidv camcorders for $300, or you could just borrow one from someone if they have one. Kev
  13. Both the HVX and DVX are great cameras. Again it all depends on many factors: ie budget, the need to shoot HD or SD, etc... So are you going to do a filmout? Or just finish on tape? I myself have a DVX and it's a great camera for 24p. To be honest(I know I'm going to probably get reamed for saying this) if you want a "real" film look...shoot on film(maybe super 8 or 16mm). Kev
  14. Fav cam? What ever is right for the story told. Kev
  15. Hate to do it but I need the cash. I'm selling my K3 that I bought a couple of months ago from KievUSA. It's in great condition, although some of the paint is coming off from the body. It's been serviced and it's ready to go to someone who can make good use out of it. I paid about $760 for it so I'd like to at least get about $350. Check out the pics and then get back to me if you are interested. Kev
  16. How are you going to process 35mm motion picture film at home? Kev
  17. I own two K3's and have used a Bolex and I must say I like both. The K3's are nice, they're good for handheld shots and has a nice Zenit f1.9 17-69mm zoom, plus you can use m42 mount lenses. The Bolex is nice too because it has a turret, has nice switar primes. The problem I have with the Bolex is it's a bit cumbersome when trying to do handheld shots, and because it uses a prism instead of a mirror it blocks 25% of the light coming in, making the viewfinder very dim. The problems that I have had with the K3's were mostly due to film jams and light leaks. Not everyone has these problems but in my experiences using the K3, that's what I've encountered. As far as which Bolex would be comparable to the K3 with which lens? You should probably compare lenses rather than the box that holds the lens. Kev
  18. Ok, one more time. Selling my Beaulieu on ebay. Check it out. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...E%3AIT&rd=1 Kev
  19. I'd seriously think about this, making a feature with a K3 is probably not a wise option. For one, they are very noisy, second, the load times(since it only takes 100ft loads[2 mins 30 seconds@24fps]). The K3 would probably be good for B cam stuff. One question, what is the budget for your feature? Kev
  20. You blow me away everytime Macgregor! That was a beautiful shot. Kev
  21. Correct me if I'm wrong everyone but isn't super 16 just the gate size?
  22. Selling my barely used Beaulieu 5008S super 8 camera. Comes with battery, charger, filters, lens shade/filter holder. Pics upon request, willing to part with this camera for $300. Kev
