  1. I recently became aware of the CRLS and watched couple of interesting videos. For anybody interested: A RIVER OF LIGHT - Interview with DoP Christian Berger about CRLS Movie sets lighting samples in the following: CRLS - Cine Reflect Lighting System - Part 1 CRLS - Cine Reflect Lighting System - Part 2 and great overview of the components and setup in English: Cine Reflect Lighting System - how can I work with it? ... One think i liked was Christian's intent on lighting with this so there is very little light falloff and the performance is less hindered for the actors. It needs another mindset on using this.... :) Best Igor
  2. Lytro's first camera for filmmakers is designed to work seamlessly with VFX Lytro Cinema captures 755 RAW megapixels at up to 300fps.
  3. As i was reading your questions about how to expose for different scenarios, pictures started to pop in my mind - i have seen this in a manual, and probably for the above meter... I looked in my collection of PDF manuals, in the 398A, and couldn't find what i recalled. Looked in another makes and models, nothing. And i was SURE it was for a Japanese meter and most likely the 398... Then i remembered, it was from the 398 manual but for an other variant, the non "A" User manual here: http://www.cameramanuals.org/flashes_meters/sekonic_l-398.pdf ... As for dome pointing at camera, i like to measure pointing at key light, then the rest and come up with a decision. It's late and I'm too tired at the moment to elaborate on that. ... Shane Hurlbut's site had an article on measuring incident, cupping the dome for measuring fill, avoiding skylight, or back light etc... Let me search of it. It might be moved to his Inner Circle content. It was previously free. (beat) As i assumed: Top 10 Hurlblog Posts of 2014 It's the 2nd article, and when you click it says "This content is only available to Shane’s Inner Circle members..." ... Best Igor
  4. At the bottom of my 1st post is the link to the above picture in the ASC's Facebook page. Click and just wait. By me initially it shows the cover page of the album, and shorty after switches to the above picture. The next one is wider showing the set. Then some others showing of set. Cycling through to see them. I guess you need to be logged onto your FB account. Maybe even subscribed to the ASC page?... :) If FB is the "barrier" I'll attach here more photos from there. Best. Igor
  5. I can't notice any top source, except in a wider shot there is one space light on, but it looks to me it is in front of the set and just there to illuminate the space with the people and video village...
  6. I was wondering in this ASC Masterclas day 2 photo of the set what the purpose of the diffusion frame above and in front of the ziplight is? In the consecutive photographs in the Day 2 album on FB, you can see the configuration for both behind the shoulders is the same - zip's as backlight + frontal fill, and diffusion frame above and in front of each one. Extension of the hair light and slightly wrapping (from above) in front of face? Some illumination for the table? 7. Try getting info via the Baraka/Samsara website contact form. Somebody was also asking the same on a fan page and the same answer from the moderator/owner. Best. I
  8. Yes. I prepped the same shot days ago in a folder as the game started. :) Hit us Satsuki!
  9. :) Yeah. That it is. Brief Encounter (1945) - directed by David Lean Not seen it?
  10. Sorry for interrupting the top ranking of the film vs. digital thread. :) Some diversion is needed. Here i go: ---------- BTW, i asked for hints on the unrecognized by now shots. @ Gregg MacPherson - Your gray thing and the fog hint, i thought maybe some "Pirates of the Caribbean", Then maybe "Shutter Island" and now i "see" some silhouette of flag on left upper side. Maybe some boat in water... @ Freya Black - Is it an animated film? Some Monty Python?
  11. I thought by default it was digitally shot. Didn't expected to be film. You know, majority of thing being digital lately... :)
  12. @ Freya - Yes. Festen (1998) Shot on Sony DCR-PC3 miniDV Handycam by Anthony Dod Mantle ASC, BSC, DFF.
  13. @Jay Young - Looks like some sort of umbrella to me... :) Hint please?
  14. @ cole t parzenn - i first detected it and yesterday did watch it. As of cinematography it was superb. About the story i have mixed feelings. From the trailer and synopsis i had the feeling it will cover the period of conception, pregnancy and some time after delivery. The baby was already out at 1/3rd ~2/5th or so. :) For the most part it was fun for me, but when it started to shift from comedy to drama it was somehow awkward at moments, not enough emotional latitude for me. The movie didn't plunge there a couple of notches deeper into the "dark" areas. That's my take. Too much Haneke took it's toll on me. :) Regards. I
  15. Yes David. I had the feeling you'll know it. :) Harakiri (1962) ... Great story. Sharp and very nice b&w cinematography. Some screengrabs:
  16. @ Gregg - i am still investigating your gray "thing" opening shot :)Thanks for the hint.
  17. Yes Gregg! :) Your link is the opening sequence. "Das Boot" (1981) Fun Trivia: The surfaced U96 submarine model was borrowed while filming to Spielberg for "Raiders of the lost Arc" to be the U26 - Wurrfler. ... BTW, the pronunciation , it's not boot as in soldiers boot, but B - long "O" - T. Long "O" like say the hindu mantra Aum or Om.
  18. "How green was my valley" is B&W :) ... It's not an obscure movie. It was nominated for six Academy Awards, including cinematography.
