  1. do you go to SFSU? I've heard rumors of this so-called Telecine machine, that no one knows how to run. kirk
  2. So, I recently picked up a second K3 and it ended up being a Bayonet mount. They are both in excellent condition and have all of their acessories. I was thinking of selling one in order to purchase a re-build and super 16 gate on the other. Which one should i keep? The M42 or the bayonet? I thought the M42 was going to be awesome, but I can't find any lenses that are wide enough. I picked up a 50mm pentacon which is great, but is a telephoto and i can't find a wide angle m42 to save my life, under $200 bucks. Am I going to have any more luck putting together a grip of lenses with the bayonet? Second Quesiton: Is it even worth re-building a K3 with a super 16. I know the techinical difference, but what will the application be? Better looking Footage? Easier to Process? More Prestigous? or, will it just be a pain in the ass becuase the lens is off kilter and i can't zoom my ninja movie anymore? Let me know kirk
  3. just an update, I re-cut me so called reel and submitted it for school. I got in to the advanced production pool so now i can take cinematography and gripping, etc. thanks guys, tough love is the hardest to take. kirk
  4. awful man, all dv, no 16 or 35, nothing to choose from, $20 are you kidding me? 5 seconds of a sealion $25???!! lame man, real lame
  5. man, jack johnson is a douche. yep it's a bolex.
  6. awesome, did you shoot any sync sound you could post?
  7. Awesome that everyone is so pumped about this, but whats the word on the rocket landing in the ocean or shooting it horizontally? anyone know how to build one with out the kit? i knew the forum would love this one. lol
  8. I've heard a couple of times about putting a super camera into a model rocket. Has anyone done this or could someone walk me through the process of disecting a camera to put in a model rocket? Second question: I want to shoot this rocket off the beach over the ocean and attempt to capture a group of surfers waiting for waves. Yes i know, i'll believe it when i see it, most likely impossible, yada yada yada. So, when the rocket lands in the water and i have three of my buddies frantically paddleing to pick it up, will the salt water distroy the film? even so; directions on how to put a super 8 camera on a model rockets would be pretty sweet, especially if you shoot it horizontally, over some houses in the outer sunset of san francisco.
  9. thanks guys can you post some still or some footage? So, is the camera sound sync or not?
  10. I'm thinking about upgrading from my K3 to a sync sound camera, I'm choosing between a few, a cp-16r being my first choice, but I've come across a few Kinor 16cx-2m for really good prices. Does anyone have any experience with these cameras? why are they not popular with Indie kids a much as the K-3? Also, they shoot 25 fps sync sound, are there any complications with shooting 25 instead of 24 with post production or sound recording? any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. kirk
  11. if you got cash to roll film longer than 20 seconds with out worry, you got enough cash for an aaton. go for it homeboy.
  12. thanks guys, thats what i wanted to know! kirk
  13. what about a cheap place for 7265 to be processed? i think it's 94A processing? anyone? anyone? Buller?
  14. Hire a college student to be your assistant DP. Use his/Her college ID for 30% off the cost of the flim direct from kodak. Kinda Sleezy but you're giving a College student work on a feature flim and you're getting a break on film costs. I see it as a helping hand to both of you.
  15. I've never used a Eclair but am considering getting one as opposed to an Arri or CP-16. One thing I'm confused about is how the magazine loads or works. It looks like it only has one reel. Are the feed and take up reels side by side? or how does it work? Dumb question, but I've only used 16 cams over 25 years old. thanks, kirk
  16. So, here's what i Do. I work at an UPSCALE hotel at the front desk. It's a pretty mindless job and you get used to a whole bunch of snotty millionaires yelling at you pretty quick. After all that, you get to meet a whole bunch of cool industry people, I've met, Spike Jonze, George Lucas, Mischa Barton, Jimmy Kimmel, Sarah Silverman, DL Hughley, and a crap load of DP's, Directors and Industry People. I just keep a DVD on hand to slip under a door and some party favors for celebs so you're always the cool guy. Plus and I can pull a K in two weeks if I work hard and I'm still in school, with no prior experiance in hotels. I work in SF, but check out the Mondrian in LA, or the Hudson in New York. Places like that are a shoe in to make connections. All the extra money pays for my film and half the people i work with are aspiring actors. Or Wait tables or bar tend in a High scale place, this takes experiance, but you can make more money than I can dream of. either way, don't work in Dive bars or Motel 8's, you're not going to meet many people with a foot in the industry there. Look up to where you want to be and put yourself there. Even in the mail room.
  17. Also the whole mac and cheese thing, was a music video, it's here. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6644075497408025100
  18. thanks guys. this is exactly what i needed to know. Although i feel like i got kicked in the face, it's exactly the realization i needed. I'm now in the process of re-building everything and taking everyones advice into consideration and this is no industry to get your feelings hurt. This was made to basically show anything I've done to the faculty at SFSU. I'm in my sophomore year and applying to be in an Advanced Production Pool, where I can take, cinematography, Directing, lighting, Editing etc. for the last two years I've just been in overview courses and shooting on my own time. thanks, kirk so, in your opinion is there anything worth keeping? be honest please.

  20. Here is my first cut on my reel. There's some super 8, 16mm, HD and some DV. Let me know your overall impression and what level you think I'm at. I'd really appreciate some Constructive criticism. thanks Kirk Put The video at "Original size" and it looks better. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5502934522873476864

  22. not bad, the ripple dissolve kills me, i'd change it to a cross dissolve, same with the wipes. Reminds me of the Star fade in lisa simpson's my first movie editor. it just happens in the beginning and not again, leaves me hanging. Came out very well. just need to add the lower third titles and you got a wrap. you can always re-cut your version different than the client copy. I've done that twice. very impressed with the lighting on many shots and the chromakey. what was your part? DP, Dir, Edit, all three? Check out my vid and let me know what you think. shot on a PD150, shitty compression. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6644075497408025100 kirk
  23. THanks oobe, I really appreciate your post. thats what this forum is all about! Kirk
  24. hey if you got 40k a year to blow on film school at USC, UCLA, NYU etc. you should go do it hands down. If you're like me and support your own college education and would like to be less than $200,000 in debt by the time you graduate you should check out. 1) San Francisco State University. Awesome film school I'm currently attending very frequently named as number 5 best film school in the nation, behind, NYU, USC, UCLA, Loyola. Great teachers, sound stages, and in state tuition costs me around $5000 a year. supported mainly by Coppola and Lucas 2)Montana State Bozeman. Very Very up and coming film school, supported by redford. THey also run the local PBS station so you get to work on live television and editing sooner than anywhere else. just my two cents. I wish my mommy and daddy would pay the Dean so I could go to USC or NYU, but they don't. and yes i am slightly bitter. check these out, best education for your buck and you'll meet the working man's filmmaker, not the spoiled child filmmaker.
