    Ground Glass?

So what applications are there for ground glass? I know of their use in mini35 type adapters for video cameras but someone else mentioned using one for a viewfinder? Is there a good article explaining all aspects of using/making ground glass. I'm probably about to start working on a mini35 for myself and I'd like to have a better understanding of the ground glass component. Thanks. Jon Peterson
  2. Way to be on top of the game John. I spent like 4 hours reading all that stuff on the kodak site that deals with sensitometry, pull and push processing and all that other technical stuff. Jon
  3. Thanks a lot for the help. I'll check out both of those places. I actually just loaded my camera with my first roll of Kodak plus x reversal. I mean literally not five minutes ago. I'm going to try some different things and get a feel for my camera so I'll be ready for my next project. Thanks again for the help. Jon Peterson
  4. I'm trying to find some recan and short end suppliers so I can get some film for cheaper than buying full rolls from Kodak. Does anyone have websites, phone numbers, contact info, etc. for any suppliers? Thanks for the help. Jon Peterson
  5. Yeah I think a Super8 forum would make a great addition to the community. I actually stumbled across a pair of 16mm B & H 70DR's while looking for super8's. I'm still trying to get my hands on one. I want to do some very "old" looking shots for a feature next summer. I think super8 is a terrific format to work with. It provides young filmmakers with the opportunity to work with real film instead of video at a good price. BTW here's a link to www.pro8mm.com who are a bit pricy I think but they've got a really long extensive video featuring the super8 format and explaining and giving information about it. I've found some good info on their site before. Jon
  6. Thank you Charlie and everyone for your replies. Yeah, thanks to the Yahoo group I'm now pretty well informed as to what I've got on my hands. I read through a lot of the posts and it's answered most of my quesions. I'm going to look into those places about the oil, but I don't know if I've got the cash to hand out to get one cleaned and tuned yet. Thanks again. Jon
  7. Thanks for the replies, they were very helpful. Charlie I have a question for you. What kind of oil should be used? Is standard 3 in 1 oil in the small tin recepticals appropriate or are you talking about some kind of actual "camera" oil? Thanks for the info. Mitch, thanks for the tidbit about the doorknob handle. It's very helpful because they actually didn't come with the winding cranks. Any more info would also be helpful. Thanks again. Jon Peterson
  8. I just picked up a pair of Bell and Howell Filmo 70 DR 16mm cameras for $30 and I'm trying to find information on them. I know it came out in 1951 and they both run great. Does anybody know anything about this camera or any websites that do? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jon Peterson
  9. So I have a question as well. I've been looking into this site www.pro8mm.com and they include processing in their cost for each cartridge but that's 35$ for each cartridge. So, would it be more cost effective to buy with discount from Kodak and pay for processing and digital master for editing in an NLE or to buy film with processing from pro8mm? Pro 8mm does special packages that is basically film, processing, and digital transfer to MiniDV for editing. The cheapest is 10 mins for $304, and that's 4 rolls/cartridges of film. So what's the cheapest way to go? I've also considered buying a splicer/viewer/player and editig on film and then doing a digital transfer but then I'm still paying to processing all my raw footage. I'm just looking on how to save the cash. Thanks
