  1. linky I was looking at these vids, and i was definitely interested in a couple vids, but they are expensive! If anyone has any rec's, would love to hear them... eg, lighting on a shoestring, lighting video, The B&S Master Series of Fimmaking: Lighting for Emerging Filmmakers i searched the topic and read through the cinematography.com recommendation link, but it didn't seem to cover instructional dvds... i wanna watch some dvd's to supplement my reading. Thanks for any thoughts/experiences. if there are other instructional vids out there, please advise~ ae
  2. It's quite simple: Jannard made a post about THEFT and a reward... Then a couple of people used that as a platform to say it was 1) a publicity stunt 2) why the hell would anyone buy this camera Which is rude and thread hijacking... I'm sure if someone stole a reel of your 35mm film dream project and you posted about it and I said "THIS IS A PUBLICITY STUNT" you'd think that was fine, right? Would you see the humor in me continuing to derogate your project? Constructive criticism is fine, but there is a time and a place. As Gunleik pointed out, saying things like "this is a hoax" is not constructive nor helpful. Thinking that a guy with a successful business would stage an elaborate R & D project to take 1k from people is purposely stupid. It doesn't touch his overhead. Hard questions had little to do with his departure in my estimation; poor manners is the cause.
  3. The callous remarks to J. Jannard are rude, not funny. It's easy to take potshots at someone trying to do something great, whether that person is a writer, a cinematographer, or in this case, a camera designer. But doubting the fact there was a theft? That scenario makes little business sense, if any. At the very least, Phil's dissent, where appropriate, is intelligent and reasoned. We should be welcoming resources like j. jannard to this site, not running them off... while most people here love to see Jim, David or other industry pros visit this site, a couple people on here have no compunction about ruining this site's resources.
  4. i liked the idea - particularly, everything up until the helicopter arrived, then logic went on vacation... I think you should re-examine your storyline, a guy with a briefcase handcuffed to him, a gun with suddenly live ammo, and no idea what is happening, and then reimagine where the story goes from there... Best, ae
  5. Thanks John... I had those on my list... i'm also looking for a personal rec regarding the post house. if anybody else has any input, i am much obliged. Best, ae
  6. Can anyone recommend me an indie friendly post house in Montreal or perhaps Toronto? for a low 7 figure production taking advantage of Canadian film incentives. Thank you. ae
  7. Re: foreign citizens in army... you have to love this one... Bush, in his finite wisdom, dodges serving time in actual war... and uses foreign citizens in army... if they serve, i believe they are granted US citizenship... that's the carrot. Honorable...
  8. gee, rich, it's spelled "grammarian." so that makes you a pompous ass, the great speller who needs his own spelling corrected, and still a misogynistic pig. best, ae
  9. Rich; Your post lacks a comma after the word yes and a period at the end of the sentence prior to the end quotation mark... I regard grammar just as important as spelling. A simple period, Richard! Alack, I see our American system of education (BYU) has failed you miserably as well, to say nothing of the argumentative bore it has produced. C'est la vie! ae
  10. Talk about specious arguments and slippery slopes... Richard, don't they teach anything up there in those peaceful Canadian schools? Just because there's violence here doesn't mean that it has a direct correlation to our right to bear arms... it's contraindicated by myriad issues, from race, to class, to population density... I believe in the right to bear arms because it is a litmus test for the rights of the individual, ie, I believe that there should not be illegal search and seizure, there should be warrants for eavesdropping, etc. etc. etc. I am not a big fan of the current administrations attempts to get rid of any and all executive oversight. ae
  11. For those interested, audio tape of Truffaut interviewing Hitch: Part 1
  12. I got my cam inverted once, but I was in an F-14 and I can't tell you where or i'd have to kill you...
  13. I would say Carpenter's The Thing was pretty limited... and I love it... ae
  14. Stephen - yes, I transposed your use of the word heavy, but if one is a heavy buyer, then there is heavy selling, and the juxtaposition of the two points is an easy inference to make. my apology. My question was addressed to Jim, ie, Jim Murdoch, who did not answer Jjarrods question. I don't care to debate your understanding of public companies on this forum so much... i cautioned you when making an analysis of the stock performance. simple as that. he threw out the symbol and i thought some people may have missed it, and it pertains to his ability as management to make a successful camera, in terms of access to capital, lines of credit, track record, success rate, bio, etc. etc. etc.
  15. Well... actually, there has possibly been some dilution in the company over that 6 year time frame, so you cannot compare share price then to share price now, you can only compare market capitalization to market capitalization, or the comparison is meaningless... I would have to look at their filings to know how many shares were issued and for what purpose - insiders, acquisitions, employee compensation, dividends, spinoffs, etc., to make a meaningful analysis, and i'm not inclined to do so. When you hold over 50% of your company, and you are a heavy buyer, that shows you have strong belief that your stock is undervalued, and this is a good thing... when you say other people were "heavy sellers," that is an opinion probably not steeped in fact. Even if someone files for sale, that does not mean they have sold. Do you have a shareholders list or a Nobo list? I'm guessing not. anyway, as far as I know, Red is a private company. so the point to a guy like Jim is: a guy with deep pockets, successful track record in business, and serious connections has taken an interest in creating a great camera, and taken an interest in participating in the forum. What a great thing for everyone. he asks you a simple question and won't answer? where's the reciprocity? why should he answer you then?
  16. for those of you who don't do the stock thing, that's $300 bucks for a company with an approx. market cap as of Friday at $1.25billion, kids... not too shabby... ae
  17. Hi all - haven't seen this posted on in awhile... I'm looking for a good flatscreen in the 40-50" range, willing to go LCD or Plasma... If anyone has any strong rec's, fairly affordable, and maybe even where to pick one up, i'd love to get some tips... Not entirely sure which ports i need for cable signals... but i'm trying to get the most pixels on the screen that I can... Currently considering the Panasonic TH-42PX50U... seems good and affordable. Thank you. ae
  18. Richard - comedies run shorter, generally under 100 pages... big dramas, historical epics run longer, 120-140... but the biggest concern, for me, on a script under 100 pages is: Have you (exhausted) exploited all the dramatic possibilities? In the hands of a novice writer, this is the question. Best, ae
  19. Hey - this thing changed my formatting... i put long spaces in there between the dialogue blocks... oh, forget it... the preview function and the final post in this case are NOT the same... pull up some tv scripts and you'll see what i'm talking about... ae
  20. I'm not a television guy, but i believe the tv scripts are formatted differently, ie, the dialogue blocks are parallel. that could vary by program, or style... James and Thomas walk into the room. JAMES THOMAS What were you thinking? I'm sorry. Or something like that... Best, ae
  21. I really liked the surprise in the first shot, as I didn't know what I was looking at, and the last shot with the girl crying seems so real, not as a (young) actor crying would usually look. good job. The music bordered on over the top for me, but that is my personal preference. it works.
  22. I use safari on a G-5 with nary a problem... i will say, however, that most of the Invision Power guys (makers of this board) use Macs, so it would be odd to me that their board wouldn't run well with a mac... Best, ae
  23. ask him how much the option was for... because if it was $1, that's not a good sign from the new prodco and their ability to raise money... best, ae
  24. I thought that was awesome... it was restrained, not busy like some dv films, but planned, architected, and executed. the direction, the art direction, the blocking was all top notch for a (dv) film. Congratulations! ae
