  1. I've just purchased a load of 25 year old 7291 16mm. Still boxed. Do you think It will still be useable? Obviously im not after perfect color reproduction. But do you think the film could be fogged too much?
  2. Hey Guys! I need your help. Im about to shoot a scene for my 16mm feature in the upstairs of a pub. See attatched pictures. I need to know the best way to go. I will have two people playing pool, a kareoke woman in the corner, bar with customers and some people dancing and some on sofas. If you look at the pictures all the lighting in the ceiling is the inset variety, but the lights around the edge are normal (i believe). Do you think the best idea is to put photo flood bulbs into these sockets? Its for an evening scene, so i want it quite low key. Plus i think i will be shooting on 100T asa film (only stock we have). Any help, much appreciated!
  3. Hello, I need your help. Next week I have to film a lady cleaning the step of her house on her hands and knees, whilst talking to camera. I attatch a picture of the house. I am shooting in the evening and there will only be street lamps. I am shooting on 16mm and I hope to get some fast stock. Does anyone have any good suggestions on how to light it? and what could look good. There will also be an old man in the shot. he could be sitting on a chair outside. Though i don't want sound recording to be difficult. Any thoughts? cheers phil
  4. Hi Alain, I had this trouble today. Camera starts making a jarring flapping noise as the gate hits the claw device. Did you work out the reason, i was pulling it pushing it., eventually it clicked and started feeding smoothly but i took it as chance.. any ideas? Also my motor belt has started stopping, so the film spools inside the body of the camera.. Does that mean the magazine pully belt needs replacing?
  5. hey, Sorry for the somewhat daft nature of this post but I won 10,000ft for about 100 dollars. (don't ask). Anyway, the stock is super slow 65D Fuji. At the moment in England its so dark and moody but I really want to do something bonkers and attempt a feature film in a weekend. One room style. Is shooting 65D indoors madness? I'm not a DOP, just an eager director hungry to shoot. What would you do? Plus I've got a favor regarding the hire of a movie-cam too. All the best Phil
  6. Hello, I wouldn't mind giving this a try. Could I have a copy of the relevant bits and peices to make my cinema products camera really cool? thanks
  7. Thanks for this Hal. i'm a bit of a novice so I'm not sure what a 'wall spreader' is. Are they available to hire in London, can't find much about them on google P
  8. Hi all, I'm about to shoot a scene where a prostitute emerges from a room fully naked and walks down the corridor to the bathroom. Im shooting on 16mm. Any tips on how i can light this in an interesting way? i don't have places to hang any lights. The only hidden places is to the left of the stairs, the room in front and behind where this shot is taken from. Any hints will be much appreciated. I attatch the image. Phil
  9. Thanks for both of your responses, great stuff. Im not looking for grain conformity TBH - it's a very slash and hack film, what i was slightly concerned about was the aspect ratio. Obviously Standard 16mm is 4:3 whilst Super is 16:8 - I don't really want to 'pop' in and out of aspect ratios. I'm not the DOP, the director so i maybe missing something fundamental here.??
  10. HI there, I am in the process of making a super 16mm feature. Unfortunately all shooting relies on having the DOP available as he as the Ari 2 camera. I have a cinema products standard 16mm camera and would like to shoot my own stuff to incorporate in the final cut. My question is, what is the impact of doing this? Obviously I won't be getting a 35mm blow up and it's likely that I'll try and get the neg final cut re-scanned at 2K but what impact will this have on the standard 16mm stuff? Anyone had this issue? many thanks Phil Thompson
  11. where did Ken Keesey suggest anything? cheers for the feedback. eterna 500T it is. I wanna make another one. ITs hard getting people to give time tho,
  12. Cut a little trailer to a self financed feature im making over the course of a year.. The stock is from 1994..Kodak vision 250D shot on Ari SR2 http://www.vimeo.com/10632129
  13. Hi, i need to film a small comedy sequence in 35mm. I am in east london. I have one roll of 35mm film. YOu bring the camera, i bring the stock. Anyone up for a laugh?
  14. 16mm is a much better vibe. Canon 5d is ten a penny.
  15. Thank you for your detailed guide for what to shoot in Alaska, I reckon it would have to be next year but It could make sense, Id have to take the camera on the plane as a carry on thought. I wouldnt trust the airport staff to handle my luggage with the care needed to transport the camera and lens. Thought i could take on the lense with me and risk the body as it's pretty rugged. Alaska does sound amazing and would really put the camera through its paces. I'm pretty new to the world of Cinema products after getting the camera at a total steal ($200) with an amazing wooden tripod with O'conner head! I've looked up and they alone can fetch $1400. My stupid friend lent against the camera when i had it up against the wall and it fell down (it was attatched to the tripod) and the magazine suffered a break. I then had to glue the peice back on, kinda paranoid about a light leak as the footage I got back had some weird orange flashing at the base of the frame, it was intermittent but something told me it must be to do with the magazine. Maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, I called up Ken Hale at Whitehouse and was shocked to hear that he had a fall and i think lost some of his memory or though this maybe temporary. You may want to email him and send him well wishes. He was so helpful in getting me a new battery, though get this, the day I received the battery, I had my bag stolen from a pub in London! So, so annoying but the day after weirdly a CP original battery came up on ebay! Hows that for luck, and the guy had a spare mag too!! Now all i need is those pesky core adapters from Ken... Sorry for this Cinema products adventure, it's really not all that interesting but you don;t find many people still into them. Let alone created custom electronics for them!! That's dedication for you. Regarding the focusing. How would one measure when one is roaming around with the camera on ones shoulder? The CP16a is so hard to focus anyway, I mean you cant tell whats in focus...Unless you zoom in etc, find that soo anoying. Maybe I should get the newer camera? Anyway...
  16. hello, firstly i didn't realise it was you who created the Archimedes! Well done it looks mind blowing. Second, sorry for living in the UK. Unfortunately I don't know of any other cp users, I'm like a lone wolf. I don't even know where I can get my camera serviced, so if you have any idea, please let me know! I filmed everything with the focus on infinity mostly. Was this the way to go? The fstop was 4 to 5.6 too BTW. A training DVD would be amazing, though I wouldn't trust myself and would probably blow up :( How long is the install? Maybe I can book a holiday to Alaska at some point. <_<
  17. I'd love to do super-16 and Archimedes electronics, but im in the UK and i dont know if it would be feasable to send it to the US and back again. It's very expensive. Why would you say my lens is sharper?
  18. Something like this, Eastman 50D from 1992..the 16mm version! http://pictures.kyozou.com/pictures/_9/8403/8402103.jpg
  19. thanks for the response, Ive changed my name now. Yeah i love the look. Cant wait to shoot some more!
  20. telecine at ilab, soho, spirit to digibeta to HD Uncompressed 10-bit 4:4:2 What do you reckon? http://vimeo.com/9505841
  21. can i get away with minimal lighting using 80 asa?
  22. Sorry i made a mistake in this thread.. I ment the one and only B&W fuji stock.. any thoughts?
  23. What are your opinions of it as a stock? Compared with the double or pro-x from Kodak? Do you reckon it's good? And do you need loads of light?
