  1. I own a 3-perf Cameflex, it's probably one of the cheapest 3-perf modification available but it's not easy to find someone to do it. Maybe Aranda, that's right. I've bought mine in parts 2 years ago, the 3-perf cameflex had been entirely disassembled to build a copy that never been done, it was maybe 10 years ago... It was pretty tricky but at the end it works fine. Don't forget that you'll need a Cameflex who can accept a S-35 ground glass (24.9mm wide) then you have to built a 24.9mm x 13.87mm camera gate and ground glass masks. The lens mount have to be centered on S-35mm. Of course, the magazines and the driving mechanism should be modify too and then you must do some test... I'm afraid that you will need more than two weeks... And, Don't expect a significant camera noise reduction...;) Anyway, good luck. PS maybe my Camera tech in Paris could modify some magazines but I'm afraid that he won't accept to modify a camera...the price is around 400 Euros/mag I think.
  2. Thanks Teddy, So it's Axel and not Alex... I'll call him, but does he have an email address so I could send him pictures of the shutter...
  3. Thank you Matt, but unfortunately the shooting has been cancelled....maybe another time...
  4. I though it was obvious...Witch camera has the best dynamic in high levels...I don't want that extreme highlights become yellowish.... I was told by a very good Video camera tech here in Paris that it was the Panasonic dvx-100 & hvx-200 that were the best on that point. Anyway I think I'm gonna choose the HVX-200 for its slow motion abilities in 720p.
  5. What's the price of the "Bosher" C-mount / PL adaptor?
  6. I've been told that Alex Broda could help me with my Arri 35-3 shutter Issue ( a fixed 10° shutter on an Fench army camera...) I think I have to find a used shutter to solve my problem and maybe Alex could hep me... Please tell me his email address or phone number by Private messages. Thanks
  7. Exept weight, size, aperture and focal limitations would it be interesting to shoot with a "monster zoom" like the Cooke Varotal 25-250mm T3.9 MKII. There's nothing better than real film test with color chart and everything but what can I expect ??? Will it be too soft for 35mm blow up? It's for a B&W short in exterior daylight with Plus-X negative stock If I shoot wide angles with High Speed Zeiss primes, will it matched ? I would say yes...
  8. Hi, I'm gonna shoot a music video in Paris this month with the Mini-35 system. All the sequences are in exterior condition with bright sunshine and all the people will wear white clothes...what's the best camera for the job :dvx100,200 Sony Z1, JVC HD-100 or Canon xl2, xlh1 ? What kind of filters or set ups are the most effective (black or White Promist, Low contrast or Ultra contrast?) I will only have diffusion frame and mirrors... no HMI. I'll use Nikon AiS or HS-Zeiss primes. Thanks
  9. I know, it's two days of work minimum! It's not the same "league" but I've reassemble a 3-perf Cameflex (the one and only to my knowledge) that was in pieces and it takes me quite a long time  , so I know how much work it is... The labour charges are ok but 8000 euros is not a reasonable price for a spare part, even a shutter... I've ask P+S technic, it's pretty much the same thing. Actually I've sent many many mail around the world asking for a used shutter...it's really really rare and always very expensive but I'll keep looking for it, I still have many leads but if someone here know where I can find a shutter, at a reasonable price, please contact me!!! BTW I'm wondering : there's only few DP in France who have serious S-16 or 35mm gear, I've spent many times and a few Euros and I've made really nice bargains...that almost ruined me !!! Is there really many DP in the US who have their own 35-3, 4-35 or 5-35...???
  10. Hi, Is it possible to remove the two vertical ground-glass support bars who are really disturbing. Anyone has seen a 35-3 ground-glass without those two vertical lines?
  11. You can also use a C mount to Bayonet adaptater and use some "cheap" first generation Zeiss Super speed lens designed for 16mm or 35mm. I'm about to do some test on my Beaulieu 6008 with this trick...I can even put a 3x3 clip on and a lightweight chrosziel Follow Focus ...Nice!!!
  12. Get a C mount to Pl mount lens adaptater or C mount to Nikon or Cameflex or Bayonet....and you'll get everything you want.... ;) It's true that there's not so many good lenses available in C mount.
  13. The Super 8 zooms are pretty bad, even 6-90mm Angenieux T1.4 ( I have one) are not so good but it's true that the focal range and the wide aperture is great... The best is to use fixed 16mm lenses like Super speed Zeiss with adapter : C mount / PL or C mount/ Bayonet . For telephoto use you can also use Nikon AiS lenses with a C mount / Nikon mount adapter but it's hard to find a wide lens then... Those options are pretty expensive unless you rent a lens set. If you want to use Super 8 for its "family movie" look, shoot with the zooms !
  14. You're right, it's Huge...8000 Euros for the variable shutter and about 1000 Euros for the work...I don't understand their price policy...a new shutter for the price of the camera! I think a good camera tech can remove the extra 170° of my shutter without problems. I'll keep looking for a variable shutter cause I love to use it but meanwhile I'll shoot with a fixed 180°, it's not such a big deal...I've found this camera for almost nothing so it's cool anyway.
  15. In the Jurgen's Video Assist documentation it says that 100%of the light goes to the viewfinder and 100% to the video assist....No beamsplitter or pellicle!!! How does it work???
  16. I'm looking for a Video assist for my 35-3...What's the best Video Assist in B&W or Color??? There are so many assists available for this camera, i'm really confused...Denz, Jurgenz, AZ Spectrum,CEI...??? Thanks
  17. I've just bought an Arri 35-III 2nd generation. The Camera has slept for maybe 5 or 10 years and is in a rather good condition but has some oxidation points and the speed is erratic?anyway, I need to send it to a good technician for overhaul. The camera comes with 3 400? coaxial magazines and I don?t know if they can run in reverse and what?s their maximum speed? The weirdest thing is that it has a 10° fixed shutter, It has been modified for military use by ARRI and the modification is very nice?but very restricting?!!! Who can I contact at Arri to have some information about my camera, do they keep records on all modifications they make? Anyone seen this before? I think it can be remove easily but then I?ll have a fixed 180° shutter. Is it hard to find a 15°-180° variable shutter??? I?m also looking for repair and maintenance documentations, if someone can tell me where I can find it? Thanks
  18. It's when the focal lengh seems to change during focus pull. The lens zoom out when you focus to infiny...and zoom in when you focus in the other way.
  19. Thanks Stephen, In fact I've just baught a Cooke 25-250mm MKII T3.9,with an Arriflex 35-III 2nd Generation. I thought the Camera comes with the old zoom when I posted my topic A really nice bargain BTW... The zoom is in perfect exterior condition but, inside, a lens need to be cleaned I think. The breathing is not so bad. I've seen the same lens on eBay for 3000 Euros... Does this lens has the same caracteristics as the old 25-250mm??? Thanks!
  20. Hi, I'm looking for opinions on this old Cooke zoom 25-250mm T4...there's many Cooke 25-250mm and it seems that the T4 is the older one ... what can I expect of such lens: Does it "breathe" a lot with focus? Is it Sharp or a bit soft? Does it extra-sensible to flares? What about colour rendition........ Thanks
  21. Is it possible to modify a Nikon lens into PL? I would like to modify a Nikon 85mm T1.4 and a 135mm T2 to fit a Cameflex wich will be converted to PL. Do you know someone who do this kind of job? Modified Nikon or Canon Telephoto and Ultra-Wide lenses (200mm,300, 8mm...) are often used in rental house...why can't we do the same with other focal lengh.
  22. Has anyone tried the Bartech Focus Remote with M-One motor ??? Most AC prefer Preston, Scorpio or the AMAZING C-motion unit....but for a 4000$ budget what do you got??? What's your opinion about the Bartech unit...the only problem I see is that we must add a receiver for Iris and a third receiver for the zoom...but I heard it's really fast and easy to work with...
  23. One scary thing About cell phone issues ( wich is not the real subject here, it's an AC forum...) is that "mega-Insurance Company" don't want to cover cell phones companies against futures law suits....think about that! About the swedish studies (among others...) go and see by yourself on the internet or in some independent magazines, search infos on Google, Copernic, Safari...Whatever Make your own opinion by getting as much informations as you can get...I'm not preaching for my church I'm just trying to find objectives and non orientated informations.
  24. Thanks for your interest John, I'll read it... What are you talking about Hal??? The testicules thing was a joke!!! Yet Independent research from sweden (besides others ) have proved the danger of abusive use of cell phone. Industry financed study have proved the contrary and you believe those guys, those who sell billions and billions of cell phones. Don't you think the phone companies can't buy all the studies and reseach they want? What's money can't buy? Have you heard about precaution? But,anyway, the good thing about being in a set is that almost all those goddam cell phones are off !!!
