  1. I'm not the most knowledgable in this aspect but I would think that you should make sure that you know where the light sources are coming from, Get pictures of a reflective sphere so that you can create a reflection map in your 3d pacakage. Make sure you record some data for camera tracking (ie, lens, distance from various objects). Also make sure the actors know where the cg element will be placed so they can looks and interact with the correct spot. It would probably help to ask the person who will be doing the compositing what they require as well as having a visual effects supervisor if your budget allows.
  2. Usually when I want music for my low budget short films Il use www.stockmusic.net . They have a whole ton of music meant for film and grouped into categories. You can download them and edit them together to make original tracks. You can also get them to compose a completely original track just for you.
  3. A feature film shot on super 8 wow. I watched the trailer and thought there was some pretty cool imagery there. Most indie features are on dv and shooting yours in super8 puts it in its own league. I thought the trailer was a bit downing though. Seeing people talkign with no sound is sort of pointless to put in a trailer. I could really tell what you movie was about by watching the trailer. I just figured out that there was a lot of nature and cool footage. I'm hoping to shot a feature film in the future and seeing that you have done it, and on film nonetheless is pretty inspiring. Good Job
  4. wow thanks guys. I really appreciate feed back like this, you extra motivate me to do my next movie which I am sceenwritting now. This was actually done in wide screen but when i put it on youtube it compressed it into 4:3. I recently got a nice microphone so i can stop spending so much time trying to clean the audio in post. I'm really glad you guys liked it.
  5. Ok so i've made another short film. This ones about 6 minutes long. Check it out and tell me what you think. The compression is youtube but i can't aford anything you have to pay for so itl have to do. Thank alot guys
  6. Thanks alot for answering these questions. I think im going to get a few reversal cartridges and a few black and whites to makes some short films on. The reason why I got this camera is because someone I knew had it in their attic and didnt mind giving to me for free. I've been shooting digital for a while now but ive been reading alot about film and since the oppurtinity presented itself i jumped at it and took the camera. I just want to try shooting some film and get my workflow down packed before i try anything else... like 16mm.
  7. hello guys I recently obtained a super 8 camera thats is pretty good condition. I have some questions so i can get started. The camera is fully automatic with no way to change film speed or exposure. Is there a way that I could cheat the auto exposure system and control it manually? Secondly i am going to be ordering film from kodak and I was wondering if i should go for the most expensive type availabe (colour negative) or just settle for colour reversal? Is there a huge difference because I would like to get some good quality images from this camera? One last question, if i sent my exposed cartridges to a lab like niagra custom lab would it come back as a positive print or a negative print. I am going to use this camera to shoot some short films and practive shooting film before I make the jump to 16mm. Thanks alot guys
  8. I think the cheapest way that would look the best would probably be to take a sewing needle (the very thin type with a tiny hole on the end). Attatch a fishing line to it and use the needle to stick the leaf to the branch. Then cut the needle so all the excess is gone and you cant see the needle. On cue pull the string so the needle will slide out and the leaf would fall. Make sure there is no wind so the leaf doesnt take some erratic path when you try to follow it with your camera. Zamir
  9. I found a deal for an arriflex 16bl for a reasonable price (600). I realize that this camera is slightly inferior to the arriflex s but it is only a bit more expensive than a bolex, is working good and comes with two mags so i think i am going to bid on it. Would you guts suggest doing this or not. Thanks.
  10. Is it possible to get an arriflex 16 for less than 600 dollars? I know that there would be no 400 foot mag or lenses with it but every time i find one on ebay it goes up to over 1000 in the last couple minutes. I just want to know if il ever find one or if i should just go with a bolex. Thanks.
  11. Hey guys lots of good advice in this thread. I just lost a bidding war on an arriflex 16s. The price went way to high for me. I have two more cameras i am interested in now . Could you take a look and recomend one. Thanks http://cgi.ebay.ca/Russian-movie-camera-16...1QQcmdZViewItem and http://cgi.ebay.ca/Paillard-Bolex-H16-Refl...1QQcmdZViewItem
  12. I actually really liked it, compared to the other movies in the competition it definately was up there maybe even number 1. It definately had the best story and the decision to shoot it in 16mm was much better than shooting it in digital. Were thos scratches on the film because of the bolex or because you added them? take a look at my short film if you want http://www.cinematography.com/forum2004/in...showtopic=17868
  13. I've finally narrowed my selection down to two different cameras. One is a bolex h-16 reflex with a motor included. The second is an arriflex 16s. The h-16 is 71 dollars right now but with a day to go so i dont know how expensive it will get. On the other hand the arriflex is already at 400 and has three days left. Ive seen the same arriflex deal go for 400 so i think that could be close to the final price. I want to know if you have any advice on which camera to go for. Here is the link for the bolex http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...A%3AIT&rd=1 Here is for the arriflex http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...A%3AIT&rd=1
  14. Thanks for the compliments. I know the acting is really bad but if you have any tips on how to get some better preformances from non actors that would be great Thanks
  15. I've posted two other short movies here. If you want to find them just search my name. The first one was really bad, the second was better. I made a third but didnt post it and now this is my fourth. Hopefully you can comment on it because the comments are really helpful. Anything you have to offer I would appreciate. The movie is split into part 1 and 2 on youtube because it was too long to upload all in one go. Here is the link to PART 1: and PART 2: Thanks
  16. the polarizer filter only takes reflections of non metal objects so it wouldnt work on a mirror. I guess if you had a big budget you could paint out the camera or if you want to go the cheap way you would have to find a way to hide the camera. Usually its better to just shoot on a bit of an angle.
  17. First of all thanks for your suggestions guys. Two more questions. Would a k3 camera give me the same picture quality as any other 16mm camera except that it would not run at a consant speed? Secondly, how does this camera look, http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...A%3AIT&rd=1 Thanks for your help.
  18. I was hoping to get some feedback, any comments would be good.
  19. Hello guys. I've posted some of my other short films on this forum and I've gotten some great feedback that realy helped me to improve my filmmaking. This is another movie that I made and I was hoping that I could get some more feedback. Its a little long for a short film 15 min but there is action througout the movie so hopefully its not too long and boring. Thanks for looking at it. Here's the link http://www.addictingclips.com/Clip.aspx?key=CF6F9EF77FA4B86E I would really appreciate any feedback
  20. I'm considering buying a 16mm camera later on to play around with and shoot some short films on. I may eventually shoot a feature film on it. I was looking at cameras on ebay and was wondering if it woudl be possible for me to do sound with one of the wind up bolex cameras. Would it keep sync througout the shots and well as with all the other shots so i could use it as a mos camera. Thanks for your help.
  21. Make sure to take digital pictures at each stage of taking it apart so you know what to do when you are putting it back together. I had to learn that the hard way.
  22. I liked it, the editting was pretty good and went well with the music, I don't know if it was just the you tube jumpiness but some of the cuts seemed a bit jumpy. If you use a really small dissolve, like one frame then it make a subliminal effect that makes the cuts blend together better, while still seeming like a cut.

    24F

No, the difference is actually pretty huge. 24p, like on the xl2 camera is actually 24 frames per second taken progressivley by the ccd's. 24f is canons way of saying that the ccd's are actually taking 60 interlaced frames persecond and it is then using software to make it look like 24p. The two have different looks and 24f will lose some resolution. People say that the 24f on the xl-h1 is really good though.
  24. I liked the title sequence with the notebook. Looked very professional.
