  1. Thanks all for the info, but i'll develop them myself using a paraformaldehide pre-hardening bath and c41 chems (as negatives). I'll submit the results when I have them. cheers
  2. dear all, just some thoughts, because i am moving countries i decided to either sell or shoot my ancient film stock. I found at the bottom of the freezer 30m rolls of 7252, 7255 and 7256. And I'll probably be using it as special effects for a new ugly film i'm making. Given that, i started to think about the origin of the film. Obviously the rolls are not originally purchased by me as they were produced way before I was born, but then, who did they belong to? I mean, what was the original intention of the person that bought it when he/she bought it? That film could have been used for example to document the murder of Alliende in Chile by CIA supported criminals, or be used to record moments of woodstock. It's like a history that has never been told because was never documented and because the gelatin was taken from a living creature, probably a pig that lived and had their own vision of the world back then, I will shoot it with all the respect this experienced emulsion deserves. Amen.
  3. it's still not available in australia
  4. Hi, I have a can of 7250 (7605 2994 1R) ektachrome video news left after I successfully use another from the same batch for cross processing, so, I just want a bit of info on it, I found on wikipedia that the stock was introduced in 77, but they produced till when? Many thanks!
  5. Hi Martin, i had the same experience as Will but a pre bath with paraformaldehide would help to avoid reticulation. In any case, you'll have to process in a tank not in a continuous processing machine. C41 at room temp also works reasonably. If you want I can dig out some pre-hardening formula.
  6. Hi all, I have a konvas 1m that I only bought to be able to use normal still film (in bulk loads) to shoot. I am totally retarded regarding 35mm. So my questions are: 1 - does a camera converted to 2 perf spend less film per minute? 2. Is it possible to convert a konvas 1m with rheostat motor to 2 perf? 3. Can I still use film with KS perf after it's converted? Many many thanks! richardson
  7. if you have a second hand k103 or similar from JK or any low end contact printer 16mm let me know. cheers
  8. Does anyone owns one of these? Could they scan negatives? What would be better, this one or the JK digital printer? Many thanks.
  9. Anyone willing to sell one? cheers.
  10. I have to agree w/ eveybody, rafcamera is OVER-decent. Go for him with no fear.
  11. Yeah, it's probably the distance between NZ and Australia (but if you think this way it's actually close...)
  12. i didn't pay 80 dollars for one and it didn't include processing, it's just an example of how unrealistic is the production line for fellow brazilian amateur cinematographer. In any case, what we will be trying to show are the possibilities to use s8 that does not involve a lot of money. According to kodak, there's no lab that develops 64t's and tri-x's (only neg stocks), so, how fair would be to show films that the stock was developed at home... Moreover, most of the people (actually the 16mm people) I talked to there never heard of ebay... maybe it's the language barrier... They really try hard to get their 16mm films out and showing alternatives... Anyway, the invitation is still up...
  13. i dunno anything about field recording... The films don't need to be made in Brazil and answering Alessandro, it's not a dogma or anything. It's mostly to show that it's possible to make films at a very low cost. As an old brazilian film-maker used to say - a camera in the hand and an idea in the head. I was amazed to find out that a cart of vision 2 from KODAK in brazil costs 80USD... So, the numerous groups that used to do s8 vanished. OK, that's for the brazil part, now, for the traveler part, the place is unbelievable. To get there, one has to fly to Salvador, one of the coolest capitals in brazil (and it has a beach). You'll have stuff to do the whole day, beer is insanely cheap (and differently from other parts in the country, the criminality is nil). It would also be cool to exchange techniques and experiences. I know you develop your films, I do it also (and in some extent, make my own film...), I make my own developers from raw material etc and I am now experimenting in sensitising pan films to infra red etc. I am sure that are hundreds of people out there that have their own ideas and methods. Also, we would give a preference for alternative production methods but it's not essential. We're just on the planning phase, so there's not much info available and I need to get a reply from the agencies that are supporting us (what do they require) then I can pass on the details. Cheers
  14. well, for example, renting of expensive equipment, having professional crew etc examples of avoiding the 'usual ways' include: * use of amateur equip (camera/lighting etc) * Use of alternative stock (foma, orwo, svema etc) * home processing * home telecine etc Also, use of stock and processing as a part of the creative process (I am not talking about simply asking the lab for a bleach bypass) It's more of a away to show that is possible to make a good film without a video camera, without a big budget and without the aid of major companies/labs etc. Together to that, the Chapada Diamantina is one of the most beautiful places on earth and the relative isolation would make a very good opportunity to exchange ideas and PARTY.
  15. Dear all, I am organising a film fest (also film camp) to be held in Brazil in a park called chapada diamantina: http://www.google.com.au/search?q=chapada+...lient=firefox-a My question now is, should I do an international fest or only a latin fest. So, I am first looking for expressions of interest. We'll only accept entries originally FILMED in s8/reg8 and 16mm that avoided the usual way of making films (e.g. home processing, alternative film stock etc). We have the support of the brazilian culture ministery and we'll probably have the festival credited by the brazilian National Cinema Agency. So, I just would like to know if anyone here would be interested. Cheers Richardson
  16. Hi Ernie, The Krasno 2 and 1 use 30m day load mags: http://www.geocities.com/russiancamera/16mm/16mm_cameras.htm http://cgi.ebay.com/KRASNOGORSK-2-RAREST-R...1QQcmdZViewItem pentaflex also have 30m loads: http://cgi.ebay.com/PENTAFLEX-16-Movie-Cam...VQQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/PENTAFLEX-16mm-movie-c...VQQcmdZViewItem Kinor 16-sx and sp-16(sp-m) also
  17. thanks for the suggestions, however, this particular festival is only for guerrilla filmers, people that have access only to s8, k3 or bolexes or similar (that will be one of the entry conditions). Also, people that develop film at home etc. Basically, everything that comes away from usual practices. The lab and transfer would also be included and as it is most likely that it will be a latin festival, I can't give bono labs certificate (but it's a good idea). Recently I had a camera problem when I was filming in Brazil and I could only rent one 400Km away from where I was at a frice of 800USD/day, therefore, a camera for the brazilian audience would be a great asset (in my opinion). Many thanks (and I still welcome suggestions for a camera).
  18. Hi all, I am organising a short film fest and my idea was a 16mm camera + film cans for the winner. As I don't think my budget will allow to buy a new cam, I would like suggestions on what to get. I have a kinor 16 and I love it but i think they are out of season on ebay (just found one w/o the 120m mag). So, I thought about getting suggestions on 16mm cameras (towards the cheap side) that have/can take 120m mags that I should keep my eyes opened for. Many many thanks! richardson
  19. i had nice results by filming a background scenery 1 or 2 stops underexposed, rewind the film, than film the titles (white letters in a black background).
  20. I think it's fantastic. And the alignment is almost perfect!!! Very impressive.
  21. Hi all, I am thinking in organising an alternative short film festival for 16mm/s8 (maybe 35mm) and I dunno if here would be the place to talk about it, would anyone know any forum to discuss it? many many thanks. richardson
  22. Hi all, I have always processed BW my self and I know nothing about labs. If a lab process 7222, could it process UN54 (orwo) similarly? Many thanks. richardson
  23. Hi, there was a thread from Konvas.org which rafael from rafcamera.com was offering a full s16 conversion with a pl mount for ~800$. Olexandr also does the conversion. I think the kinor would be the easiest as the camera itself is quite tough and resist machining (maybe i am wrong) but I doubt that you would get a cheaper option w other cameras. I measured mine w a sound level meter and it was 41db (with a loaded 120m mag).
  24. for the c41, i just run the film through a g3 with a specially adapted sponge that rubs off the carbon from the back. no darkroom needed. it get a bit scratchy though but I think it's pretty cool.
  25. Nick, for ecn2 (if you were serious), or c41 on ecn2 films, the morse is better as you can just put a sponge facing the rem jet during the borax step (to get rid of the carbon back).
