  1. YES 1.8 is the wide open aperture. you may find some info on your cam here : http://super8wiki.com/index.php/Category:Agfa
  2. Go with the big names and you will do fine. Elmo, Eumig, Bell & Howell, Bolex, Revere. if you think you may shoot R8 then go for a Dual 8 that will handle both Super 8 and Regular 8. I checked to make sure a bulb was available for the projector model I bought and priced it before I bought off of eBay. I have a newer ( 70's ? ) Bell & Howell S8 and I also have a Revere from the 40's
  3. Light is light is what I am told. You have to make it work for the shot. You can use any lights you can afford. If you have the bucks go for expensive ones that have the right color temp. Hell even incandescent bulbs will work, You will have to either filter to correct or place a gel over to correct. Just shoot & learn & ask tons of questions on these boards. best Eugene
  4. Hello all, I am anxiously awaiting delivery of a just purchased Bolex D8L. It has 3 lenses, 5.5 wide angle, a 13 and a 36 telephoto. The owner of it sez it has been freshly serviced and is ready to go. I would love any words of wisdom from anyone with these cameras. I am not going to ask "How do I shoot with this" as I will buy some film and go !!! I am hoping to use some 100D. I am wanting to do some filming at night with some fill lighting. I am sure I will prolly want to go with a higher ASA film but I will see what happens. I would love to hear from any Bolex 8mm folks and would love to know who I can ask some advice from and hopefully soon share some footage with. I am going to do some music videos and some Low-Budget Horror shorts with it.... I know, I know, I can hear "go 16mm stupid" from some already, but I am gonna learn this tool then maybe move on.
  5. OK Fine !!! thanxxx for the fast replies. I just fired up a recently acquired a Revere 85 projector ( $25 w/ shipping !! ) and showed some home movies to my mother. It is the first time she has seen both my father and sister since they passed away 2 years ago. the images were pretty good considering the film had been improperly stored for 40 years. Wonderful color saturation. the films were shot on a Bell & Howell camera back in the late 50's & early 60's. I see that the film needs some cleaning as well as the lens on my new toy. One problem I have is the Revere 85 will not take some larger reels of 8mm ( I am guessing 200' ), they hit the mechanisim so I guess I will have to manually rewind some film onto smaller reels and then show the films. I probably will then do a home telecine onto mini DV. I am hoping for decent results. I also have a super 8 projector and I am waiting for some Super8 film I just shot to get back from Spectra. best Eugene
  6. I got a Q ... I am assuming Super8 will play ona 8mm projector correct ? I would need to put the Super8 film onto an 8mm rell is the only issue correct. I do not have both film stocks on hand to compare, but I want to have only 1 projector and hope I can easily do this. Best Eugene
  7. 7. a BIG KNIFE in the hands of the killer stalking her 8. a zoom lens to get the expression on the "killer" when he learns that the nude lady is a killer herself 9. MORE nude ladies to join the 1st one after the guy is bumped off 10. a big bag of pot to smoke with the nude ladies after the shoot 11 protection
  8. WOW ! I see that the pics on Filmshooting were pretty good at night w/ 64T, less grain than the 500 or 200. Got better in mid range on the 500 & 200 , but w/ more grain. I saw you stated on that board said the 64T was processed "VNF" . Forgive my ignorance but what is "VNF Processing" I see that 64T uses "E-6" processing, is there a difference ?? I will try the 64T in my Sankyo that will open up to f 1.2 and see wassup w/ dat. I will aslo get some 200 & 500 and see what I can get w/ that too. THANXXX Eugene
  9. Anyone have any luck doing push processing 64T shot at night ? Please share any efforts to do this. I have a Canon 814 Autozoom and I would love to know if anyone has tried this. ( I also have a Sankyo XL-40S, it goes to 1.2 ) I am thinking of using some not too bright lights attached to a rig that will hold the camera and aim light directly onto my subject ( actor ). the light will only be bright enough to light the faces I presume. I am wanting to try this for a Horror short I will be experimenting with. I am looking for a dark & scary effect Wondering if I should go ahead and use Vision 2 200 or 500T. Any help / ideas from the masters would be gravy and help me in experimenting and learning night shooting. Best Eugene
  10. I am told that the camera will work w/ Fuji Velvia 50 using the automatic exposure. I have been told that the EE lever is iffy at best. Best Eugene
  11. GRRRRRRR !!!! I MESSED UP THE CAMERA IS A CANON 514 XLS !!! I dont know where I got 512 from ??? What film speeds will this camera correctly expose ? Anyone have any luck with this camera nowdays ? I am thinking it might correcly expose 160 and 250 speed films
  12. I got my hands on a Canon 512XL, too bad it does not do manual exposure. i do not want to mess with locking the EE thing to correct. What film speeds will this camera correctly expose ? Anyone have any luck with this camera nowdays ? Best, Eugene
  13. I am looking for an online manual for a Snkyo XL-40S super8 camera. Any leads ? Best Eugene
  14. Thanks for the reply, I know what I want to shoot. I am experienced in still film, digital stills and DV.... I wanted to get going on a project I would be happy with DV on. Is not too hard to shoot both DV and super8 on the same shoot. I know what and how I want to shoot. I have a script, storyboards and have spent a good bit of time working on this project. I figure that I can also play w/ super8 along with DV and whatever turns out in super8 will be gravy and a valuable learning experience. I will be very slow and methodical in what I do so I can get up to speed on what I want to do. Thanks everyone for their kind replies. best Eugene
  15. Hello, First post here. I am new to Super 8. Just bought a Canon 814 , a Canon 512 XLS and a Sankyo XL-40s along with some exposure meters. Got some Kodak film and starting to formulate some plans for shooting. I remember being told you can overexpose film and compensate in prosessing if needed and in Digital you should underexpose but never over expose. If I am shooting film which will then be transferred in telecine, how should I shoot to get the best image that I can adjust in post to get the most latitude in picture quality ? Best, Eugene
  16. I would love to hear any feedback on what works better a wheelchair vs dolly on track setup. I see the stability of a dolly being a plus but the versatility of a wheelchair being helpful as well. I fully understand the most important thing is to master the tool and you will get the best results. The mastery is more important that the tool itself but I am looking at what tool I want to invest my time and money in first. I am thinking of making a "wheeled tripod" setup that has soft tires but I would love some feedback from those who have tried different setups. best Eugene
  17. I made a crane for $ 295.00 . does pan fairly ggod. I need to refine it some more and make some adujustments. But hey for $295 w/ a monitor....not bad http://luridcinema.com/cranepics/
  18. I am looking for a Tripod Head on the cheap that I can mount to a wheeled dolly platform ( plywood ). I am only finding what appears to be replacement heads for tripods. I am guessing they would mount to a machined base. I have searched on Ebay, Google, BHphoto etc for "flat mount tripod heads" with no luck.. any help would be appreciated. I have seen heads that have a flat and stable base before, but I have yet to find one for sale. I guess if all that is available is the replacement types, can anyone suggest one that they have adapted w/ success ? I am looking to build a dolly setup similar to the one pictured below. http://i17.ebayimg.com/01/i/04/06/e6/0a_3.JPG Best
