  1. My ACL has an Arr-B mount adapter. I've been told that I can use Arri-Stardard lenses with that adapter and it should fit and work correctly. Does anyone know if this is correct? Thanks.
  2. Hi, while testing my camera. I noticed that my ACL2 has a light meter inside the viewfinder. It seems to work similar to my Nikon SLR in-camera light meter. I was wondering how you could specify what type of ASA (50, 250, 500) film you're using for the ACL2 light meter. There doesn't seem to be any mechanism though (like there is on a SLR). Does it work the same way or am I off base here? Thanks.
  3. Hi. I was wondering if anyone could recommend the best model pelican case for an ACL2. I want the smallest (most manageable and portable) case that has enough space to transport the body, 1 x 400' mag, 1 x 200' mag, an Ang 12-120 lens, and the handgrip. The battery, cable, and other accessories I will transport seperately since they are not as fragile. I would check out the cases myself, but there aren't many places around town that sell Pelican cases and I wouldn't be able to take the camera and the mags to see if they fit anyways. If anyone has any knowledge about this, please let me know. Thanks!
  4. Hello Zamir. Very nice work for your first attempt! It took a while, but after about the half way mark, I started to get more involved in what was happening with the young girl. It may have worked better if you established her plight earlier on. After she realizes that she's trapped in a strange, silent world, you could have had her attempt to do something about it. Escape? Communication? It might have been cool if her father, in the car, received a strange, silent call on his cell phone. Or her brother is afraid to go into her room because he thinks he hears whispers from her. Those kind of things. Anyways, as each of her attempts at communication or escape fail, she becomes increasingly desperate, and this leads to her eventual "suicide." That way you build up to it, otherwise, it seems a little jarring. (But I think you did a good job of filming her suicide. Nice shot of the door too). Besides the story stuff. I think technically, I agree with Jason when he suggested that you lock down some of your shots. Maybe not so many quick cuts, especially at the beginning of the movie. I also noticed that you followed your actresses everywhere she went: from the alarm to the chair to the window to downstairs, and so on. For expediency, you may want to cut some of those transitions and just cut to the beginning of the next scene at the next location (bedroom, kitchen, balcony). Once again, nice work and good luck on your next project! :)
  5. I used a Sony VX2100 to shoot the movie. For lights, since we were out in the middle of nowhere, I used portable, battery-operated handlights from Home Depot. They were cheap, which fit my budget nicely. For the tracking shots, I used a dolly and track system that I built for the movie. Thanks for your response. I appreciate it. I was wondering what camera angles and cuts didn't work for you. I'd like to know and hopefully improve my work for future projects! thanks.
  6. Hi. I recently purchased an Eclair ACL2 and an Ang lens off of eBay and I was wondering what's the best way to test a camera and lense. Is there a standard, comprehensive test that I should perform that would check for most major issues (focus, registration, viewfinder alignment, etc)? Or should I just start shooting random things in as many different settings as possible? Thanks.
  7. Hi. I own a Sony VX2100 and I'm wondering if there's an adaptor out there that would allow me to attach Nikkor 35mm SLR lenses to the camera. Or am I stuck with just the built in lens with this particular camera? if that's the case, I was wondering what comparable (prisewise) cameras would allow you switch out lenses. XL1? GL1? Thanks!
  8. Hello everybody. I made this short film with a couple of buddies of mine in the middle of nowhere. It's a silly, little horror movie (surprise, surprise!) that was inspired by Japanese horror movies, which I've always loved. I guess that's a fancier way of saying I shamelessly ripped from them (you'll see what I mean). Anyhow, I'd like to know what everyone thinks. Be brutally honest. And when I say "brutal" I mean, "be nice." hahaha. j/k. http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2656622 Thanks!
  9. Hi. To answer your questions: I bought the Ang lens off of eBay. I'm going to be using the lens with an Eclair ACL 2 that I also bought off of eBay. I have not gotten the camera serviced yet. However, the seller claimed that the camera has been inspected and serviced (clean, lube, adjust, etc) by an ACL tech in LA. He's sending a copy of the work order. It seems pretty obvious that you recommend that I service the lens since it is off eBay. Thanks for the advice, I'll look up Duclos Lenses.
  10. Hi. I just purchased an Angenieux 12-120 f2.2 lens. I was considering having the lens serviced. Before I do so, I was wondering if anyone knows and can describe to me how useful such a service would be. How much does a full lens service usually cost? How much does it really help with the quality of the lens (sharpness, focus, etc)? Basically, I want to know if it's worth my buck to get a lens serviced. I know this is a very broad, subject, and difficult question to answer. I'm sure it depends on where I get my lens serviced (which I'd also love to know), the current condition of the lens, and many other variables; but basically I want to hear other people experiences, opinions, and advice. Is it a normal thing that a person gets a lens back from service and their footage now looks like MAGIC? If so, how do they (the technicians) do this? Isn't a lens and it's glass a pretty static thing? I'd love to learn about it! Thanks!
  11. Hi. I was wondering if an Angenieux Super 8 lense with a C mount will work with an Eclair ACL2 16mm camera? Will it cover the full frame? Is a c-mount for a super 8 the same as a c-mount for a 16mm? Thanks!
  12. Hello Everyone. I was wondering if anyone out there has had any experience using the scoring software called 'cinescore.' what's you're experiences been with it? is it worth buying? is it difficult to use? how much lattitude do you have? and most importantly, what is the quality of the soundtracks? i know that's very subjective, but I just want to get a general sense. Thanks!
  13. thanks again for everyone's great advice, tips, and information. I was wondering if anyone out there has had any experience shooting an ACL with a Nikon lense using the c-to-f mount adaptor. i've seen the adaptors for only $50.00 on eBay and my brother has quite a few lenses for his nikon SLR. So this seems like a nice, cheap alternative to buying a lense, at least until i save up enough for a nicer lense. anyway, i was wondering if this is a good alternative. since the 35mm SLR nikon lenses are not designed specifically for 16mm camera use, does this take away from the quality (sharpness, grain, etc) of the shot? I understand that this is completely subjective: dependent on what type of nikon lense you're using, what type of lense your comparing it to, and what you define as "quality." but I just want to get a general sense of whether this is a good alternative. Whether I choose to go this way or not, I'd like to understand the advantages, disadvantages, and limitations. Thanks!
  14. Thanks Bernie...that's an awesome tip! I'm sure that'll come in handy some day soon! By the way, what brand scotch tape roll should I use? Will any kind work? Also, are all 16mm cores standard? Will any one of the ones I buy at a rental house / processing center, work and fit on my ACL flange?
  15. Hi. Here's another dumb question for you all: I'm checking my 400' magazine and I see that on both sides (supply and takeup) there's a 6" black metal disk that is attached to the axel that is detachable. I'm sorry if I get the terminology wrong here, but I'm assuming this is what they call the flange, right? This flange can detach....I'm assuming so you can load a daylight spool into the magazine. Here's my main question: When loading film, where do attach the film on the take up side? It doesn't make sense to attach it to the flange. Is there a plastic core (?) that should be there to take up the film? If so, the camera package didn't come with any cores. Where can I get one? Are they easy to find? And how much? Thanks!
