  1. Thanks Keneu. Could you recomend some "cheap old" 16mm stock? -Nicholas
  2. Also, what size changing bag will i need for a 200 or 400 foot ACL mag? Would 27x30 be enough? 26x40? Thanks- Nicholas
  3. I have shot numerous skate videos on a canon xl1s, and have shot perhaps 8-10 rolls of super 8 footage with a canon 1014 xl-s and other less expensive cameras. Could you recomend some of the tests i should perform when i recieve the camera? I'm actually 19... not quite 70. But guys settle down. Humurous sentance from David, but this is a cinematography forum and that is what i believe we are supposed to be talking about. However, me being a hypocrite: good old America... dividing our common people for a two party system when we should be working together to solve our problems. Thanks for the responses guys- Nicholas
  4. Awaiting the arrival of my new Eclair ACL, i am trying to figure out all of the significant accessories i need to shoot film properly. What i have: (LINK to my camera: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...:IT&ih=012) Eclair ACL II Angie 10-150 lens 200ft. Mag 400ft. Mag Power Cord What i THINK i need: Gaffer Tape (Not sure what kind/size/etc.) Changing Bag (To load film) Battery Pack/Belt Film Filters (Can't afford mattebox) I'm not sure if i am missing anything, and i am also unaware of the best brands/deals of the items i need. Any help would be greatly appreciated- Nicholas
  5. Sounds wicked, does anyone have anymore information about this? -Nicholas
  6. Wondering if anyone knew what film stock was used in the filming of Smith's documentary "American Movie." Any similar stocks available? Thanks- Nicholas
  7. There are numerous sizes of these at filmtools.com Anyone have any idea as to what size would fit a Kinoptik Viewfinder on an eclair ACL? LINK to my camera: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...y0%3D%26fvi%3D1 Thanks! -Nicholas
  8. Hello all, just wondering if anyone knew where to purchase eyecups? (believe that is what they are called) Mine would be for a Kinoptik viewfinder on my eclair ACL. It has an eyecup already, but i do not like it. I believe i have seen some that fit over the existing eyecup? Any help would be fantastic! -Nicholas
  9. Was interested to see if anyone was in any way familiar with Columbia College in Chicago. Has anyone heard anything about the film program there? Good, bad, etc? Thinking about moving there from Orlando to attend the film program... any reason i should? shouldn't? Thanks- Nicholas

    ACL battery?

Just wondering if anyone knows where to purchase an eclair ACL battery and or charger. Thanks to any responses! -Nicholas
  11. Yeah, I'm the one who purchased it. Did so before reading the responses, and now am a bit concerned about the seller. Thanks to everyone who responded, especially Saul. I thought the camera looked really nice as well, which is why i did not hesitate to purchase it. However, this being my first 16mm camera and my only real camera at the moment... i really want to get a solid piece of equipment. I'm on the fence as to what to do... Any responses/advice would be greatly appreciated. -Nicholas
  12. LINK: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...N:IT&ih=012 Just wondering if anyone could notice something missing in this camera package. (Other than the battery/charger) Is this a fair price? Thanks- Nicholas
  13. Exactly how is the ACL more versatile than the LTR? I've heard the opposite on the viewfinder. Doesn't the Angenieux viewfinder keep the image in an upright position regardless of how the viewfinder is oriented? Thanks- Nicholas
  14. Aware that there were a number of motors made for the Eclair NPR, i was wondering if there are any i should absolutely stay away from. I'm looking to purchase an NPR, and need crystal sync, and would also like variable frame rates. Is there a motor that offers this, that is NOT worth getting? Should i be on the lookout for the newer motors and only purchase those? Thanks- Nicholas
  15. I've heard the ACL is quieter than the NPR? If so, how loud is the NPR? Does it rule out the ability to shoot sync sound... with the mic possibly close to the camera? Thanks- Nicholas
  16. Wish this was happening another time... i'll be out of town on the 27th. Shooting a documentary in new york/chicago. If the 27th goes well, everyone should meet up again sometime... maybe shoot something. -Nicholas
  17. Would anyone know of perhaps a good 35mm slide stock to just learn/experiment with light? Also, isn't the aspect ratio of 35mm film the same as 16mm?
  18. I am planning on shooting 35mm slide film until i can afford my own 16mm camera to learn/experiment with light. However, i am not sure what stock to start shooting on. Is anyone aware of a 35mm slide stock that is comparable to any available 16mm film stock? Also, is the aspect ratio the same on 35mm still film vs. 16mm cine film? Thanks- Nicholas
  19. Not 100% sure on all of this, but... Shooting with the constant speed motor will let you have synced audio, but only for a short amount of time. I shot my friend's band performing, and was able to sync up the audio pretty well with my super 8 canon 1014xl-s by simply shooting at 24fps and syncing it with a digital audio recording from an hd camera. However, if i ran the 8mm camera too long... the audio would eventually fall out of sync. Digital audio recorders record in real time, so as long as you are shooting with a crystal sync motor you should be fine. Hope this helped- Nicholas

    Lenses

In an effort to decide which 16mm camera to own, i have realized i don't know poop about lenses/lens mounts. On account of i have a 35mm slr still camera, and plan to use that to learn/experiment with until i can get my own 16mm... I'm looking to find which mount offers the widest selection of available lenses. (Thinking of buying nice 35mm lenses to shoot photos with, then transfer the lenses to the 16mm cine once i get it) Affordability is a huge concern... but because the lens of the camera is so important, i want to make sure my camera is going to offer me the focal lengths and apertures i need. (Speaking of which, wide angle/zoom lenses are most important with large apertures around 2.0) Do many 16mm cameras offer mounts for 35mm lenses? If not, what is the most common mount/ the mount that offers affordable wide angle/zoom lenses? Thanks for any help- Nicholas
  21. Filming a music video, and one shot i had in mind was a silhoutted figure standing on the edge or inside of this sewer tunnel. However, there is a few inches of water in the tunnel... and i planned on using a 1k fresnel and a generator to power it. If i keep the extension cords above the water (taped them to the wall of the tunnel) should i be worry free? any suggestions are welcome- nicholas
  22. Ok, i have the option to use either final cut pro 5, or adobe premiere 2.0 to do this... however, neither of the computers running these programs are powerful enough to handle HD footage. therefore, i am trying to convert the footage to SD, or something more practical to work with. i do not know if i should originally capture the footage as SD (or something with a smaller file size) or convert the full quality HD footage. furthermore, i have no idea how to go about doing this. any help would be GREATLY appreciated. thanks- nicholas
  23. Could anyone recomend a good book on 'juice'?
  24. Thanks Hal, i appreciate it. One more question, while traveling with your lights... do you find it necessary/safe to remove the bulbs from the fixtures? I don't have any legit case for my lights yet, and i was planning on placing the fixtures in the seat next to me/back seat for the 15 minute car ride. Should i take out the bulbs and put them in their original packaging until i arrive on the set? Thanks- Nicholas
