  1. Just wondering what to look for when buying extension cables to be used with fresnel fixtures. I've heard it is wise to use solid cables for the lights, just not sure what "solid" means. Also, is there a place (home depot/lowes) that would sell these locally? Thanks- Nicholas
  2. Anyone know where i can get some fresnel bulbs in orlando?
  3. I really hate to be asking this... but i am having some trouble installing the bulb to my 1000watt mole. Looks like i should place the bulb in the socket, and then turn it 45degrees to lock it in there, but the bulb doesn't seem to want to turn. And if i just set it in there, it doesn't seem secured in the socket. Any help? Thanks/sorry for the naivety of the post- nicholas
  4. Perhaps a generator is the better route to take. I'm a little confused with how much wattage i need the generator to handle. Is it as straightforward as a 1000watt light needs a 1000watt generator or better? Thanks- Nicholas
  5. Wondering what type of AC Power Inverter i would need to power a 1k Fresnel off of a car battery. Is this even practical? Thanks- Nicholas
  6. I am also concerned with turning a small room (my studio apartment) into a functioning studio. My room measures 10' wide, 12' long, and 7.5' tall. Using Fresnels, will this space allow me enough room to study/experiment with lighting setups, etc.? Thanks- Nicholas
  7. With Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0, how do i downres to sd?
  8. For some reason, i have captured HDV footage from a Sony FX1 and when i place the footage in the adobe premiere 2.0 timeline, or even view it in adobe the audio is not synced with the images. If i open the footage with windows media player it plays fine, synced and everything. Anyone have any advice? Thanks- Nicholas
  9. Well, pretty much everything minus sound equipment. Camera isn't a definite must... but lights and stabilizing equipment such as a track dolly or push cart, steadicam perhaps.
  10. Anyone know of any good rental houses in or around the orlando area? Thanks- Nicholas
  11. Anyone have a rough idea of how much weight these stands would support? Also, is 8 and a half feet as a maximum height suitable for most basic light setups? link: http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Mole-Richardson-8-ft...1QQcmdZViewItem Thank you- nicholas
  12. Can't believe no one has posted any praise yet. Beautiful film. Music was spot on, created so much atmosphere. Wish the titles were actually on the film, however i understand how difficult that would have been. How did you get the last shot of the waves? Also, how did you transfer the film to digital? Again, great work. -Nicholas
  13. Thank you for the input, and i understand where you are coming from. My apologies for not being so clear. The fact of the matter is, i have been passionate about film/cinema "for a while now." I have shot skate videos mostly, been reading about the subject, and shoot 35mm stills. However, other than reading more technical works about lighting/equipment, i have been studying film as a medium of art and the cinema process in general. So i have spent a lot of time behind the camera and understand basics in composition and technical aspects. I have NO budget, just the extra money from multiple jobs. The reason i seem to be in such a rush to accumulate equipment is because i have stumbled into a position in which a producer has been paying me good money to shoot music videos/do what i love. In order to get more jobs with this producer and make more money, i need more equipment. And since this is the case, i see it as shooting video/learning to pay for equipment i was planning on purchasing eventually. So, is this attempt to gather a slew of equipment that will fit my future needs to capture the images i am passionate about extremely immature? Yes. The equipment i am trying to attain is nothing more than the supplies i need to experiment/learn more about this medium i am obsessed with, cinematography. My passion resides in light-sensitive celluloid exclusively, however i am shooting digital on these projects because of funds and common sense. Once again, i really appreciate all the help. Thanks- Nicholas
  14. Bought a 1000/750/500 Mole Richardson (#407), and was thinking of getting a 300 watt Mole Richardson betweenie... but it looks like it only accepts 300watt bulbs. Is this a big disadvantage, or is there a similar Arri lamp that allows for a wider range of bulbs? Also, did i screw up getting the 1000/750/500 instead of getting a 650? Thanks to everyone who has helped- Nicholas
  15. I completely agree, however I somehow stumbled upon a producer and the need to create an entire video production crew ASAP. So without the time to buy/read books at the moment, i come here for advice, and i really appreciate all the help. Much thanks to all- Nicholas
  16. Anyone else know of the companies John is talking about? Thanks- Nicholas
  17. Since my only camera (super 8 canon 1014xl-s) is no longer working, i've thought about using my 35mm slr to continue experimenting with light. I'm also in the midst of purchasing my first proffessional light kit, and wanted something to try it out with. So, do you think i could learn lighting for cinematography from a still camera? Thanks- Nicholas
  18. Just wondering if anyone had any horror stories/ praise to throw at Desisti lamps. Thinking of getting a 300/500/650 Desisti Magis fresnel. Any reason i should spend more money and get an Arri? The only difference i see in the two lamps are that the Desisti has the following: Socket (Lampholder) Bi-post GY9 Lens (Condenser) 4.75" (120 mm) Fresnel Reflector (Mirror) Bi-metallic clad aluminum parabola And the Arri is as follows: Socket (Lampholder) GY9.5, Prefocus, 2-pin ceramic Lens (Condenser) 4.3" (110 mm) low expansion, borosillicate fresnel lens Reflector (Mirror) Spherical, specular, high purity reflector How important/different are these elements between the two lamps? Thanks- Nicholas
  19. Can anyone else provide a recommendation towards Desisti lamps? Or perhaps there is a reason Dan doesn't see anyone with a Desisti kit? Thanks- Nicholas
  20. Anything close to tungsten lights in terms of price that don't give off as much heat? Thanks for the help- Nicholas
  21. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v502/truespin19/eclair.jpg Thought this looked strange. Isn't the lens supposed to be attached to the mount below? Doesn't look like the lens is doing a whole lot where it is. thanks- Nicholas
  22. I've started shooting with an HD Sony, and own a Spectra IV light meter. However, i'm not sure how to use it with this camera. What do i set the film speed at etc. Thanks- Nicholas
  23. So i'm planning to start putting together a lighting kit... arri or mole richardson fresnels. Looking to get a basic kit to build from, but wasn't sure what some of the standard wattage was for a key/fill/backlight. Also, not sure what a nook light is.. or what the term kino or kino flo refers to. http://cgi.ebay.com/Mole-Richardson-Nook-w...1QQcmdZViewItem Would that light fit with the kit i am trying to build? Thanks for any response- Nicholas
