  1. I think they may say 'at the whim of the projectionist' but I'm pretty sure they do it from some kind of transfer (don't know the details tho). the last one I did was perfectly matched for our film, tho that's a testament to our team and great note taking as much as their matching of music to the movie... ;) I've done straight 8 a couple of times, and it's great fun. ed & ben run something getting people making films and seeing them on the big screen - some films are crappy n funny, others are technically jawdropping, and all shot on one reel... my only problem with it is both times I've entered my camera's died during the shoot (first time was finger in the air meter reading, the second time was "The Great Canon 1014 Manual Aperture Foam Collapse")... but I will risk it one more time!
  2. hi all can anyone point me in the direction of functioning link (or post or email me) a Braun Nizo S800 manual? any thoughts or feedback on using one? thanks
  3. freddie - give them a call! I've just had a similar-ish experience there. gave them 400ft to transfer, 2 rolls which were badly exposed, the rest normal. did a great job on the 'bad rolls', but blown out on the whites for the rest. If your TK is unassisted you've always got potential for this kind of prob (i've also come across similar problems with TK jobs not being to the standard you'd expect at much more expensive facilties than Widescreen). good luck with getting it sorted G
  4. thanks guys - really helpful! will get the stock in the post asap!
  5. heard that post closure of lausanne, that getting K40 developing is not possible. is this true? anyone out there know where I could get that last reel developed? thanks
  6. for getting widescreen images with a beaulieu? would I need a prime lens? would my schneider work? think I have got myself utterly lost try scan the forums and make sense of this?! help!
  7. 'Sorry, I missed 'The Brown Bunny'. thanks for the tips... as for "The BB" - I really love the cinematography in it (VG is the DoP... and a camera op...). gained notoriety for the sex scene with chloe sevigny towards the end, but en route there's some great stuff - all very art house, but great scenes of driving across america, shot from a van, plus a great scene of a motorbike disappearing into the horizon on salt flats which reminded me of the nightmare-hallucinatory cop cars in the desert of the essential 'Punishment Park' by Peter Watkins... but hey, I digress...
  8. from conversations in the past, I've heard that the quietest cameras around tend to be braun nizo's, and the 6080 is supposedly very quiet (tho I can't confirm it cos the ebay one I bought was toast  ). the beaulieu 6008 I just picked up is also pretty quiet... I also have a little nizo s40, which is my 'handbag' super 8, which produced nice results, and caused no issues when shooting on busy streets in rush hour - practically no one even noticed us filming... the main adavantage of the 1014xls is model is the fact you can shoot in lower light than the autozoom model. the same goes for the 814xls (both having a 220 degree shutter, I believe), tho doesn't include the fade in and out in -camera options... the xls also looks better B)
  9. now, before I go and burn some film, anyone out there got any tips for shooting super 8 at night? inspired by vincent gallo's much maligned, but interestingly shot 'The Brown Bunny', I'd like to shoot some super 8 in the evening any practical tips / things to avoid? shooting with 6008pro thanks
  10. also being a newbie to the 6008, I just spent a whopping 20 GBP on for an original manual from www.oldtimercameras.com for the 6008pro... if you're not in a rush, I'll scan it for you. if you are, you can pick up a copy for about 12GBP. very happy to compare notes on shooting with this baby - early indications are this is a beautiful camera with lots of potential...
  11. yep, that's the one. In both films, they've got a very intimate, grainy digitial look which I'd love to know how to approximate! The 'computer games video tracking' has been dispensed with in favour of some very cool animation for Allegro, but is just as effective...
  12. Hi there - hope I'm on the right forum  ... just been to see 'Allegro' this week, the follow up to Christopher Bo's 'Reconstruction'... wondering two things about the look of these films: - how did they achieve that look? - can that look be approximated at the no-lo budget level? what sort of gear (production and post) would be required? thanks Grant
  13. matthew, good site for picking up some manuals here: http://www.mondofoto.com/manuals/ it seems to have one for your 6080 Grant
  14. well, I just had to pay about 175 english pounds to get a 1014E fixed - seems the manual aperture is controlled by some kind of foam in that model which deteriorates over time - when it went, it went spectacularly making everything shot look a little like a 1920's caper (cool, but not if you don't intend it...) they said something about them being affected by mould... but that may be me getting mixed up. when the manual aperture went, the automatix exposure was fine for a while, but gradually that went up the spout too... unless they cameras are tres cheap, might be worth shopping around... I picked up a little Braun Nizo S40 for a quid on ebay, which is a delight to use...
  15. if you're based in the uk, Old Timer Cameras (http://www.oldtimercameras.com) seem to have everything - just bought the 6008Pro manual from them. 20 quid lost, but the manual was delivered promptly and is in perfect condition... they also sell photocopies of manuals too...
  16. I've just moved on from the relative familiarity of the canon 1014E I've been using for the last few years to a Beaulieu 6008 Pro - I'm waiting for the first rolls to come back, but in the meantime, was hoping for some good tips to avoid unnecessary burning of valuable stock! in essence- what do I need to be aware in the transition from Canon to Beaulieu to get the best out of the new baby? also, looking to shoot some 16:9 or anamorphic Super 8 - any tips? are there hire options out there? common mistakes or pitfalls to be avoided? I'm based in the UK, and have been devouring the manual! Thanks
  17. certainly not a detailed technical response, but I was warned off the 512XLs recently when getting ready to buy a new camera, by one of the few decent super 8 repair places in the UK, as they the manual aperture control develops significant problems with age... you could try emailing sendean camera's and see if they'll offer free advice.
