  1. Matt, Very high density of information on this global initiative regarding artist's run film labs. Hardcore. There may be one in your area. A mixture of semi-pro DIY and professional setups. Someone may have a lead on a discarded processor sitting in storage. Very dedicated people. http://www.filmlabs.org/index.php/site/home/
  2. Your welcome, Jose. I like the term digital fundamentalism. There is a cultural cliche that states "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". But actually all this digital "film envy" comes from a very insecure place in my book. Film is a very physical analog medium and the occasional dogmatic responses regarding "superior" "cutting edge" "technology" ring hollow. But I am not an absolutist. Roger Deacon continues to pull incredible digital images from his Arriflex Alexa. Considering he has a long history of exposing jaw dropping film frames with his former Arriflex 535/435 motion picture cameras.
  3. I posted. Let the attacks begin.
  4. I am contemplating it Jose but some members of the Digital Illuminati are extremely snotty and considerably ignorant. They may have no history with film and they tend to attack. There is so much rampant insecurity amongst the millions who own identical digital cameras generating identical images. I have said it before but your Super 8 color negative work is simply sumptuous.
  5. Thanks, Rudy. Another labour of love.
  6. This is edited test footage featuring dancer, Jillain Peever and the musical group The Visit comprised of Raphael Weinroth-Browne (cello) and Heather Sita Black (voice). It is the first stage of a larger collaborative work to be shot on film. metadata: camera = Bolex Standard 16mm lens = 10mm Zeiss-Jena Tevidon APO lens_exposure = T5.6 lens_filter = variable ND frame_rate = 48 film = Kodak Vision3 color negative 250D (exposure = 250 ASA) film = Kodak Double-X b/w negative (exposure = 200 ASA) lab = Niagara Custom scan = John Gledhill bitworks.org

  8. Paul, I like the flow and rhythm of your "Living the Dayream" video. Your on to something. Super 8 film would add another level of dreaminess and potentially invoke a more nostalgic feeling. Or era. It's hard to remove the dirt and scratches completely but it's worth your efforts. Almost every flavour of color and b/w negative/reversal film is available in a 50 ft Super 8 cartridge. It is an excellent stepping stone to the larger film formats. I shot this recently in the ultrawide UltraPan8 film format with Kodak color negative. Slight dreamy slow motion effect at 48 fps. The film has a different interpretation of reality than a digital sensor. I don't regret any of my investments in this beautiful organic medium, i.e. Good luck on your film adventures.
  9. Geoffrey, It's a matter of resources. One cannot readily purchase any film stock for the UltraPan8 film format. It specifically utilizes Regular 8 double perf stock for many reasons. You can find out why on the UP8 Facebook page under the About tab, i.e. facebook.com/UltraPan8WidescreenFilm. The 16mm Kodak V3 200T color negative stock had been previously custom ordered and purchased by another UP8 user in Canada. Then shipped to the UK to be custom re-manufactured by Edward Nowill as per my metadata above. This user also had custom V3 500T R8 on hand. Those were my choices in stock and I am tired of shooting the restrictive latitude of color reversal. Is the slight color correction and "grain" detrimental toward proper viewing of the film? Constructive technical critiques are fine. I am not made of jello. But there may be traces of silver halide in my blood.
  10. Thank you, Anthony. Do you reside in Germany by the way?
  11. Carl! Please indulge me. Are you capable of implementing a matrix of LEDs to expose metadata, :)
  12. You are hardcore. Perhaps I could borrow it some time and replicate the pin outs for the weird rectangular connector top side.
  13. Phil, It is as you call it a "between-the-sprockets image". It utilizes the full 16mm width of Regular 8 perfed film and the classic 8 mm pulldown...half the frame height of a standard 16mm frame. Optically centered and double the run time per 100 ft roll of R8 (5 min as opposed to 2.5 min). It shoots the optical center of any standard 16mm optic. The example above is reperfed V3 200T color negative.
  14. Thank you, Friedemann. I am looking forward to more Logmar footage!
  15. You cannot do this. The Leica M FFD is almost twice less than the M42 FFD. FFD = Flange Focal Depth. The inverse will work. That is an M42 lens attached to a Leica M mount camera. This adapter exists (M42 -> M ) for the Leicina Super 8 camera. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flange_focal_distance. FFD also known as flange-to-film distance. M42 FFD = 45.46 mm Leica M-mount = 27.80 mm Good luck.
  16. If ever there was a worthwhile cause! I have signed and broadcast on social media.
  17. Hi Josh, I'll see what I can do over the weekend. What bit-rates are you looking for?
  18. Josh, The 100 ft scanned roll generated a 12.3 GB JPEG image sequence consisting of 7,849 scanned frames that were 2532 x 780 x 24 bit depth each. This was imported into my NLE, edited, cropped then transcoded to a smaller MP4.
  19. Thanks, Josh. I keep fantasizing the same thing. Can you try downloading the original .mp4 file and let me know how it compares on your 4K TV? Right hand click in Windows on the Original link below and save as. × Download mayday! HD .MP4 file (1280x394 / 78MB) SD .MP4 file (640x196 / 25MB) Original .MP4 file (2532x780 / 760MB)
  20. Thank you, Jeremy. It continues to be a labour of love. More to come.

  23. Great to see you posting Gregory. Did you guys shoot any 65mm on Interstellar? I need to get my handheld 14 perf 70mm camera operational!
  24. No problem, Don. Your labour of love shines through. I am chomping at the bit as per the request above. So many beautiful machines. Too little time. By the way, I have a forthcoming world debut of some quite spectacular 1950/60's small format tech. Actually two for one as there is a larger format component.
