  1. Hello everybody, I just sort of rediscovered the forum here and wondered if I might get any feedback, whether good or bad on my showreel. follow the link: http://www.alexpueringer.com/?page_id=13 Looking forward to your comments, alex
  2. A friend of mine once gave this track to me. It's called "Da_Burnin_Swordsman" Artist: Dj SMI vs. Tenderboy;....No clue where he got that from, or if the aritst and title are correct.....sry
  3. Thank you guys for the nice feedback, didn't imagine this little criticism....but I'll take it as a compliment ;) Btw, I'll take care of the black levels! Greets Alex P.S. If somebody feels like sharing some tips on how to improve the thing, I'd be very glad!
  4. Hey everybody, would be great if somebody takes the time to have a look at my first showreel and comment on it! here's the link: http://vimeo.com/1847831 thx in advance, alex
  5. Thank u guys very much! I have to confess, I was pretty shure I’m right! Thanks for that tip especially, never heard that before! greets al
  6. Maybe it was already discussed and I couldn?t find it, so I post this question anyways. If you frame a certain picture, lets say a close up with a 50mm lens you get a certain dof. Now if you frame the exact same picture with a 100mm lens form further away, you should get the same dof, right? Now if you shoot on 16mm instead of 35 and you want to get the very same frame as mentioned above, shooting from the same distance, you would have to use a 25mm lens -> so less dof, right? So if you now use a 5omm lens on the 16mm camera and go further away, you stay with the same dof again, as with the 25mm (on 16mm). In my understanding there?s no way to create the 35mm (meaning the format) dof, with a 16mm camera!? (Clearly all the setups are meant to have the same f-stop) Please just tell me if I?m right or not, because this topic kept me discussing with dops, directors and other assistants for hours. Thx al p.s. I?m aware the focal length doesn?t only affect the dof, but also the feel for distances in the picture and so on, but that?s not the point in my discussions...
  7. i liked your work very much! it´s a very unusual look, and a bit hard to gent into at an instant, but once it got me; I enjoyed watching! Lightning was very cool, and if I might say, true to the period of Super8 movies. Sometimes i felt the colors were a bit strong (talking about light colors). What gels did you use? All in all an interesting approach to the story! Alex
  8. Hello Everybody. As to Alex Haspels invitation I jump in the thread. ;) First I have to correct some minor uncertainties : We used it once for the last shot. A extreme close up of a car light, here stop 3,5 didn't mater and it was the lens with the shortest closefocus distance on set. the 105 was actually a 100mm lens.... The other difficulties with the actual state of the REDcam are mainly hardware ones. The biggest one is for sure the PL mount. First, when fixing the lens, it has no stop, or latch. So you have to close it like a bottle of water, without feeling a "closed" point. Second, it doesn't take up some lenses. Edwin the owner of #49 RED told me, that this is caused by a slightly different shape of the PL-Mount edges. It should be fixed by the retrofit on the PL-mount RED offers. As Rainer said: The other things which could be listed are: *Wing nuts already look weak *The handles for handhold use are kind of dangerous. Its just not possible to safely fix them on the "RED handle mount" as the don't lock tight. *The cable connectors all are "mini" MiniXLR, MiniBNC etc. which makes no sense to me (but RED already announced a breakout box). The adapter cables are even more filigree. *The power cable should have a L-plug on the camera side. With steadycam it sort of gets into the way of the battery cage. For Steadycam use I'd recommend the battery plate (if you're shooting on CF cards, but we didn't have one). *The RED has not a single RS connector for remote focus etc. That much about the hardware "problems", with the camera in it's actual state. I'll write a list of "pros" tomorrow, but I have to go to bed now....shooting tomorrow... Greets Alex
  9. Hello again! After searching the web, I found the solution to all the problems on the p&s technik site. http://www.pstechnik.de/en/digitalfilm-mini35.php Here you can buy a breakout box and mini35 shoulder set....now you just have to find a rental house that provides all that extra mini35 equippment.. greetings alex
  10. Hello Iga! I?ve once had to prepare a similar package for a DOP on a very low to no-budget project - so i was improvising hard to even get it somehow working. I have to say that?s surly not the way it?s supposed to be, but caused by the fact that I wasn?t told that there?ll be need for handheld, I wasn?t prepared. Nevertheless it worked somehow. So what I did: 1.) For some reason we had the two handgrips that are available for the mini35, so that was no issue. 2.) As a monitor we used the HVX-built in monitor and I had to extend the rods for a better viewing position. Don?t blame me, I just used what was on location to do so. So finally we had a hammer strapped to the rods wrapped in black cloth (for comfort). 3.) Nevertheless the biggest issue was to balance the package, because it?s very very front heavy. Again, I have to confess I didn?t really solve this problem in a convenient way.... I just gripped some magic arm to the back end of the rods and let it hang down the operators back... By now I found out that a other possible solution would be to attach a LCD monitor with a small magic arm to the top of the camera (see Picture), or instead of the left handgrip, for a better viewing position. But that would´nt help balance. Recently heard rumours about a kind of breakout box available for the hvx. It´s said to be mounted on the back of the camera, equipped with some sort of big battery (Anton Bauer sort of thing) and provides power for the adapter, the camera and a monitor if needed. I think that could improve the balance of this combination immediately. If you find out some pro solutions, please let me know. Greetings, Alex P.S here?s one picture of my funny rig with DOP Rainer Fritz holding it...(still front heavy, but less ;) )
