  1. It's all the same, nothing much has changed. Of course, some projectors are better than others and with the cost of keeping a good 16mm projector around there's really no reason to use shitty projectors. Alain
  2. The sooner the better...just let me know. 503-231-6548 Alain
  3. Hey Tim, No, it's not the same lens. Currently, I do not sell anything on eBay (just buy). I do not have the set, just this one lens. I am selling the lens in order to help with the purchase of a zoom for a project I'm shooting in the high desert. I need the versatility of a zoom more than I need a prime at right now. I also have full access to another 16/1.3 and a full set of Optar primes. Hope that answers your question? If you'd like, you're welcome to come over and take a look. I've looked at this lens on the projector over at Koerner's and I can tell you it is very nice. Alain

  5. I've been looking at several low-to-mid priced tripod systems for my NPR... -Cartoni F100 head and sticks -Miller DS25 head and sticks I wondered if people had used either of the above heads/sticks in combination with the NPR and have any comments or suggests, or might recommend another system at a similar price point? 6. The ME66 is still available (Feb 17), so if there are any takers let me know. Alain 503-231-6548
  7. FOR SALE Sennheiser ME66 and K6 module, short shotgun mic. Excellent condition. $250 plus shipping Alain LeTourneau Portland, Oregon
  8. Anyone ever hear of a company that will perform a conversion of the NPR to allow for a shifting mount for standard 16 and super 16? (Poor man's Aaton.) Alain LeTourneau
  9. Thanks, but I have the LTR manuals. They're widely available on the net. What I'm looking for is something from 1984 (the year the XTR was released) to just before January of 1995 when Abel Cine published their XTRplus manual. Basically something published 1984 and early 1990s. There has to be something that's specific to the XTR (pre-XTRplus) since Aaton publishes a manual every 5-8 years which would put one in the timeframe I've specified above. Alain LeTourneau BTW, I should note that I have the following manuals: LTR September 1979 (photocopy, received from technician) LTR April 1984 (photocopy; available on-line) XTRplus January 1995 (Able Cine original publication) XTRprod September 1996 (available on-line) XTRprod September 2002 (currently available on Aaton's site) --Alain LeTourneau

  12. All I've found on-line is the Sept 1996 and Sept 2002 printings for the XTRprod. Abel Cine sells the XTRplus manual, however I'm in need of the original XTR manual. Would have been printed between 1986 and the early 1990s. Anyone have this??? Alain LeTourneau
  13. Ok, so I went to the film last night. Projected well at the historic, now non-profit Hollywood Theater here in Portland, Oregon. Beautiful black and white. Kodak or ORWO? No information in the end credits provided, although I could contact the lab to find out, no? Re: A Tout de Suite... Interesting sense of space depicted in the film. Most of the film is comprised of close-ups, but the first half is mostly tight interiors, closed-in, or in the herione's case middle class and stuffy. While the second half of the the film, the adventure, is open, liberating. My only gripe is that some of the shots seemed too abrupt for my (slow) taste. The pacing of the film was slow, though many of the shots could have been held longer. J. Hoberman excerpt: "Less a tale of desperado lovers than a cruel story of youth, Tout de Suite is framed largely in close-up, with few transitional shots and a narrative that grows increasingly fragmented. (The filmmaker occasionally interpolates newsreel clips or interjects his protagonist's voice-over to temper the tale's immediacy.) Jacquot's most recent movies?including Sade, which featured the then teenage Le Besco as a Marquis-smitten ingenue?have been flossy period pieces. Tout de Suite harks back to the suave and somewhat creepy psychologically fraught trio? The Disenchanted, A Single Girl, Seventh Heaven?that he made during the '90s. Like those, it has its fairy-tale aspect; in this case, it's the story of a sleeping beauty roused." Alain LeTourneau
  14. Does anyone have the original manual (Aaton or Abel Cine variety) for the XTR which you no longer need and would considering selling? I'm talking pre-XTRplus. If you have an original and are willing to make high quality copies I'm willing to compensate you and pay postage. Alain LeTourneau Portland, Oregon
  15. Anyone see this new (black and white) film yet? I'm going to see it tomorrow night, looks quite interesting. Being sold as in the "spirit of the French New Wave", the old New Wave that is. Check it out... http://www.cinemaguild.com/atoutdesuite/ Alain LeTourneau
  16. Want to Buy - Aaton XTR Pre-"prod", biphase camera (C15XX or higher) package to include the following items: 2-3x mags 1-2 batts charger rods handgrip Arri-B adapter Case(s) with or without lens Alain LeTourneau Portland, Oregon USA
  17. Wanting to spend time in the cinema and found myself at Brothers Grimm, the new TG film. Looked too much like a video....the colors drab and uninteresting, the entire film looked as though I was see it through netting. Guess I should have known what to expect (CGI, DI), but the whole experience was very unpleasant. Enjoy! Alain LeTourneau
  18. Thanks Landon, the demo helped tremendously. Alain
  19. Wait, 1000' is a 1000'. Rawstock costs are the same. Just getting more for what you pay for, but does this calculate into a savings with stock and lab work? Alain
  20. I was curious as to whether the cost of 3perf is close enough to super 16 to warrant an actual choice between the two formats in terms of stock and lab work? If 4perf is around .50/ft for rawstock and s16 around .32/ft, what's the cost with 3perf? Alain
  21. I'm not currently working in the industry so forgive my questions if they come across as naive or uninformed. I'm uncertain how widely the 3perf format is being used, but with Arri and Aaton offering modifications of their cameras and in some cases pushing for the format, what is the impact going to be on super 16 production? Or will there really be any impact? Alain LeTourneau
  22. I found a still of the director looking through the viewfinder of an Arri 535. Alain
  23. Another recent film caught at my favorite local theater Cinema 21 (Portland, Oregon). At 150 mins I was engaged throughout. I've not seen anything else by Arnaud Desplechin since Love Without Pity (1989), though I've been wanting to see My Sex Life (1996) which also stars Mathieu Amalric and Emmanuelle Devos (from Kings and Queen). Kings and Queen Capsule by Jonathan Rosenbaum From the Chicago Reader There's something about the goofy sprawl of French writer-director Arnaud Desplechin--his obscure uses of "Moon River" and Greek mythology, his unlikely casting of a black woman as a famous psychotherapist--that irks me even when he's being brilliant. But this powerhouse 2004 movie lingers, and maybe, like his characters, Desplechin needs his eccentricities. Costarring two of his favorite actor-creatures, Emmanuelle Devos and Mathieu Amalric, as a single mother and her deranged ex-husband, this melodrama follows their narratives separately (she learns her father is dying; he gets committed to a sanitarium) before allowing them to commingle. It adds up to more than the sum of its parts, but you may not realize it for a day or so. With Catherine Deneuve. In French with subtitles. 150 min. After seeing the trailer a few weeks back I was not at all interested in seeing the film, but found myself at the theater where it is playing due to a lack of other interesting movies (Darwin's Nightmare...didn't want to watch video...Searching For The Wrong-Eyed Jesus...also didn't want to watch video). Shot on Kodak stocks (which ones I don't know), processed at Eclair. Don't know which camera was used but there are some wonderful images of Grenoble in the film. Alain LeTourneau
